Dean Club!!!

Yes it is.
I see you joined TB today. Welcome!

Just a heads up...when you use 'reply' the person/post you're replying to will get a notification which results in much quicker responses for you.

I am hitting the hay, but I'll get out my bass tomorrow and take off the cover plate and take some pix. Did you check the battery wires at the battery plug to make sure they are not loose or barely connected?

I did not specifically check that, I didn't notice them being loose but I will double check. Thanks!

Here's a pic of the full bass, for giggles:

I’m a little late in posting this here, but Dean fans might like to hear it. I recorded this arrangement of “Carol of the Bells” shortly before Christmas. I did an all-acoustic arrangement on 6-and 13-string guitars, 6- and 12-string banjos, mandolin, and my Dean EAB acoustic bass. The bass track was recorded with a mic, not the pickup. I use nylon tapewound strings on it, which gives it a very good tone. Check it out and bookmark it for next year. Here’s the YouTube video of the song.

Sweet!

Interesting, apparently that is an earlier fretless from the late 90’s based on the headstock. I need to dig out my catalogs for that one.

I love the necks on the Edge models

Greetings! I humbly request your consideration of my application for membership. Never knew much about Dean, but I found myself last November checking out a local listing in my quest for a sleek, modern unlined fretless. The Fender and Ibanez options weren't grabbing me, so I figured I'd take a look. And that's how I found myself the proud owner of a 2006 MIK Dean Edge, as pictured below. This is a beautiful machine, and I strive to become worthy.

And now I'm unduly obsessed with finding a fretted twin for it.

Very nice! I own the 5 string version. Mine is strung E, A, D, G, C so it is like playing a 4 string for which is a plus since I'm not very good with a 5 string strung B, E, A, D, G.

Here are catalog pages from a 2005 and 2007/2008 catalog. I do not have a full catalog for 2006, only a new products flyer.

Your Edge 4 came in fretless, fretless 5, fretted 4, fretted 5 and fretted 6 versions.

I paid $450 last November, and regardless of what the market might say, I feel like I made out well. I "graduated" from the lined fretless board on a Peavey T-20 FL, and now when I go back to it, all the markings just make me confused. Tried some GHS tapewound strings for a while on the new-to-me Dean, but they didn't do it for me -- settled on Ernie Ball 100-45 flatwounds and I'm very happy.

I love the Dean Edge necks
Thin and narrow
Is yours satin or glossy?
You’ll notice yours has the earlier vertically aligned logo rather than horizontally aligned logo.
I prefer the former rather than the latter.

Yours is also made at the ‘World’ factory in South Korea.

I really like the simple elegant look of these. Not too plain but not flashy.

I think it would be called "glossy." It's a bit less so than my Fender Jazz, though -- feels just a touch softer. Is 3/4 gloss a thing? :-)

The neck is quite nice. Is that profile and feel specific to the Edge models, or do any other Dean lines use it?

Most Edge basses have that same neck profile.

I say most as some Edge models and years of manufacture were made in different locations and factories. Either ‘World’ factory in South Korea or ‘Un-Sung’ factory in South Korea.

The Edge 09 which is the bottom line Edge model with an entry model Edge Playmate 09 version has been made in South Korea, Indonesia and China, so variations can happen.

Most other Dean models, i.e. Hillsboro, Rhapsody, Paramount, Juggernaut have the same if not very similar neck profile. However, @barclaybass recently bought a Jon Lowan signature version of a Hillsboro that had a surprisingly different neck profile.

The Edge Pro models are all neck thru up to 2019 which then for whatever reason became bolt-on. Bad decision by Evan Rubinson in my opinion.

The thinnest narrowest neck is on the Jeff Berlin signature bass model and is worth checking out especially the Czech made models and American models.

The newer Edge models made in Indonesia I can’t speak to because I’ve never played one. @BassikBrad has one and might be able to chime in?

Would you believe I have that open one browser tab over from this one?
Yes, I would believe it. ;)

Looks to be in great shape and a very good price!
Looks to be more a Trans Amber than an Trans Amber Burst? However, a Trans Amber is not listed as a finish, but Trans Amber Burst is. Regardless, it looks really good!

There's another one listed there, looks like a Q4, with Bartolinis at $199 (seller is Sam Ash, Nashville). A few more dings and action looks a bit high, but might be camera angle, and probably adjustable. Any thoughts on that one? Anyone have thoughts on how the Barts compare to the Dean pickups? I'll see what I can find searching this thread, too.

I have three of them. If you like Barts and Q maple top that is a steal.
Please buy it to keep me from buying it as I really do not need another one. That is a great price. It still has the same neck and 24 fret FB.
Same as your fretless except the Quilt Maple Top and Frets and Barts.

Barts are deeper and warmer.
DMT's tend to be bright and sometimes hot to the point of distortion if dimed.

[edit]
I just noticed that this has a 2012 neck on it and it appears to be from a Rhapsody Bass. See the curves at the bottom of the neck? May not be an issue, but I'd ask about it.
