Same guy that you got your Rhapsody from?

Ha! No, though it could have been! ;) Just happened to come across it on eBay.

Monday came and went… any news?

Oh...yeah it was delivered. It is the same as the BT-002. I pulled the old one out and matched them up. Even the screw holes were in the same location. Quick and easy solder job, and it works much that the one that was in it.

Glad I could help!
Inspiration for me to do the same now! Just got to find the bass that needs it!:D

hey guys!

i stumpled upon this board during a google search and was wondering if you guys could help me out.

several years ago, i bought a dean "edge 10 a pj" bass bc i wanted to learn bass. few months down the road i gave up and did nothing, mainly because i had no band and no "real" reason to practice or something.
however, one year ago a friend of mine kind of forced me into his band and so....yeah, im kind of a bass player now ;-)

im playing mostly with my other bass (schecter) and i am / was treating my dean bass more like a test lab or something. like testing various strings, trying to adjust truss rod, string action height and so on.
recently i switched the pickups to emg, changed the mechanics and now i really love the sound.

the only problem is the bridge. it seems to be unstable and even looks like it will destroy itself in a short period of time. but all the bridges i looked at tend to be smaller in size. and as the bridge has screws on every outer corner, i fear that if i change it, the screw holes will become visible. could you guys point me in the right direction?

too long / didnt read:
which bridge would be a good and fitting bridge for the dean edge 10 a pj bass? ;-)
the bridge measures round about 85x60mm
if it´s "chrome coloured" - that would be an extra :)

thanks in advance and please forgive my potentially bad english - i am no native speaker.

regards from vienna., austria

@ortofon:

First,

Welcome to Dean Club!!!:hyper:

Second,

Your English is just fine!;)

I have the Dean Edge 1Q, which is more like the Dean Edge 10A than the Dean Edge 1 believe it or not.
Are you aware of your Edge 10A PJ scale length? It is 35" rather than 34".

The EMG's are a good choice as Dean uses them on various Edge models like the Edge 4Q (usually quilted Edge models and DMT pups on non-quilted Edge models).

The Edge 10A also comes in a Soap Bar variety.

If this were an Edge 1 or Edge 4 you wouldn't be having issues with your bridge. The Edge 10A is one of the earlier Dean Edge Models that came out of China preceded by the Edge 1Q and Edge 09. Other early Edge models were made in South Korea. As a result in the change of factory locations, the Scale length is longer and the body is bigger than other Edge models. The neck is also different and not interchangeable with other Edge models.

Obviously the bridge is not he same either as the size is odd and other similar looking Dean bridges do not have stability problems as they are identical to many Schechter and Ibanez bridges, but not for the Edge 10A.

I used to know some eBay sellers that had replacement bridges for the other Edge models. I'll have to track them down and see what I can find. It is possible that a BadAss II or Omega bridge will work, which were standard on early original Edge Pro basses before they changed to a monolithic bridge for the Pro series, but I have not verified that yet for the Edge 10 A. Give me some time to get back to you.

@ortofon ,

Have you intonated your bass? I am asking as the saddles look in odd positions to represent a bass that is properly intonated.

If you're not sure what this is there are many Youtube videos on how to properly adjust intonation.

thanks for the warm welcome and your fast response!

i am aware of the size but didnt necessarily thought of it as a problem for switching the bridge before i read your post. there is a yt video out there where it says "just measure the length to your 12th fred(i think?),double the length and you have the point where your strings should attach the saddle (i hope this is the right term?!)".
thats why i thought, you could theoratically use any bridge as long as you line it up properly. except from cosmetic standpoints obviously.

thats why i was just looking for a model that covers up the screwholes from the old one. didnt thought of it in a very...technical way ;-)

and yes, i intonated the bass. and yes, im aware of the weird looking shape and i was quite uncertain, but the octaves on the 12th fred are in tune. maybe its because i tune down to d-standard and my D-string is a 120 gauge?!

@ortofon

85mm x 60mm = 3.34" x 2.36"

BadAss II & Omega are 3.23" x 2.48" (82.04mm x 59.94mm) so this won't work assuming your measurements are truly accurate.

So that option won't work. :(

they are somewhat accurate. i measured it with an, i think you call it inch rule which every roofer has in his pocket. so it might be a little off...
all the bridges on thomann (the european sweetwater :-D ) are only close. and no one matches the screwholes in any way. this bridge has 1 screw on every corner, while other bridges seem to have their holes more onto the inside of their bridge.
i am just looking for a replacement where i wouldnt see any screwholes from the old one.
hope that makes sense. its 4 am here so i am not the most concentrated guy on earth ;-)
