Dean Club!!!

It is easy but is it prudent? I have held myself back...
You see, there was a time I LONGED for a cherry colored razor. As well, I thought I should have one in natural. But I'm ok now. The deeply involved in band activities days are gone and I have settled in just fine with what I've got.

More dean pictures. This is for fun, not profit. My god! is that brand new?
$836 off ebay back when there was a plethera of them available.

In our most recent jam sessions, I have been playing my 12 string through this 1965 supro along with 80's digitech and dod stuff. Wow on the clarity and diversiveness available.

So old it is before they used 9V batteries in them...

And a bit newer but wow. These things can be programed internaly and I've done that for bass use. It's the "dip switches" inside.

Aughts Deans - Razor NT, Edge Pro, various Rhapsodies… great Deans and unknown by so many.

More for us!

Thanks. I've been using heavier bridges on all my builds lately, but this one does look pretty hefty. I dont think it's been played much, so I should probably remove the strings and see how it looks. I'm also wrestling with the gold look. Pretty 80's/90s.

I'm actually more concerned with the guts and what I might do to get full VTVT functioinality, maybe with a preamp with some EQ choices.
Any update on this Tropical Music era Dean?

Hey Dean Bass friends, I thought you'd want to hear my Dean Jeff Berlin in action. This is a redo of a bassline I recorded 26 years ago, so it's me, and me again, but this time I played it on the Euro spec JB instead of my late '80s Carvin. The vibe is kind of the Allan Holdsworth/Jeff Berlin thing from Road Games, so keep that in mind. I did "overplay" a bit, but I couldn't help myself - this bass just brings it out of me. I also made a "clam" in the middle of the guitar solo, <brain fart> but I fixed it real quick, so you might not notice. Anyway, enjoy the glorious sound of the Dean JB!

How'd you come across Ken Burtch and team up with him?
Very little about him. Discogs shows a CD on no label and Spotify only has 5 songs. It's a great tune.

Can anyone help with a manual for this bass or for the preamp? I need to see what they did with an added 1/4" jack and disconnected xlr. It's a Washburn AB35

Thanks!
Provide a picture of the bass side of the bass showing what controls are installed.

Although this looks very much like the Dean EABC5, it doesn’t necessarily have the same electronics. If the existing controls are not doing anything is there still a battery in the pre-amp?
The Dean EABC5 originally was passive with no pre-amp, no battery compartment, just a slider control for volume and a slider control for tone.

Does your volume control do anything?

From your other post:
I cannot find a manual for the bass or the preamp. I would love to see a diagram for the wiring. It has an aftermarket 1/4 jack installed that seems to be straight off the piezo. EQ doesn't affect it. And the XLR out is not putting out a signal. The factory 1/4" jack works as expected. The preamp is incredibly versatile with the mid shift, scoop, 3 band, etc. I'm hopeful this will be a keeper once it's all set up.

Not sure what you’re saying here?
You say the eq doesn’t do anything and then below that you say the preamp is incredibly versatile? Are there actually two 1/4” jacks that both work?

Go to this link:

scroll to the bottom and you’ll see quite a few preamps that have both 1/4” jack and an XLR jack. Looks like they are connected by a four pin connector.

I’d take the screws off the jack connector cover (assuming that is what you have) and look for new non-factory connections.

exactly what i'm saying. it has 2 1/4" jacks. one is the factory one that works exactly like it should, with the preamp. another one was added, a bit above the end-pin. it puts out a signal, but the preamp has no affect on it. the xlr puts out no signal, so I'm curious what surgery was performed on it in it's past life.

I also own a Dean EABC5. there is very little that is the same between the two.

I’m going to assume you’re an expert and have all the answers.
Best of luck.

i can hear the sarcasm from here. not sure why my post has you bent out of shape, but fair enough. carry on.
No no no, I am truly sincere. I hope it all works out. I really do.
I only own 24 ABG’s so I really don’t know much about. Really, some one at the Washburn club should be able to help you.

The Dean is a much less expensive instrument, but sounds better unplugged. The body is bigger in nearly every dimension. They really are an incredible bang-for-the-buck in the ABG world. The passive controls just leave much to be desired.

That is SSSSSSSSSSSWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!

Except that little pointy piece of the headstock.

Is that @Templar 's old bass?
