Dean Club!!!

I’m looking for a Dean Hillsboro 1000 series 5 string. Does anyone have a lead on one? Or wants to sell?
I see you just joined TB. Welcome!!!!

I own a Hillsboro USA Prototype made for NAMM 2009. They went into production in 2010 (Asian model).
The USA 1000 were a special production. The USA shop made 1000 and distributed them the Dean dealers for sale. Otherwise a USA Hillsboro was a custom order from their shop in Tampa Florida.

You might like this. Not for sale though.

2009 Dean USA Hillsboro NAMM 2009 Prototype.
Verified by Brad Mader at Dean and Jon Hill himself.
Volume and 3-way switch. J Barts and birdseye maple neck and headstock. All original.

I'll keep my eyes open. Peeps that have USA Dean basses usually hold on to them.
@BradWorld had a few.
You might get some reaction if you post on the Dean Owner's Association Discord page?

I did! Bought it this morning. Prolly gonna replace all the hardware with some hipshot gear and get it set up nice and play the crap out of it till my USA is done! I’ll be sure to post pics of both
Awesome! Glad I could Help. I spread the word on Dean Discord.
You got that for a great price! I love the necks on the Hilly's!

That's a great outcome. Hey you guys... Tell me where the finer points come into play with a hillsboro.
The difference it has as opposed to the others. I have never touched one.

I like the necks on them. The newest one has active Fishman Fluence Pickups and electronics. Besides bass and treble stacked knob it has a 3 voicing switch for vintage, modern and funk. Also has roasted maple neck and roasted maple fretboard. Nut like a jazz bass. They're really underrated. One thing you may not like is that it has a 3 way pup switch rather than a separate volume or a separate blend.

Some are Korean made, some are Chinese made and some are Indonesian made. There are also the USA Dean 1000 series where they made certain models and distributed them to various Dean dealers. The Tampa Custom shop will also make them to order but they're usually around $4k to $5k.

If you a do a search for 'Hillsboro' within this thread rather than all of TB you'll come across a lot of info.
Jon Hill was the luthier hired in 2009 by Elliot Robinson after Dean Zelinsky left to start DBZ guitars. The Hillsboro went into production in 2010.

They don't make as many varieties as they used to. Jon Hill left Dean in 2013/2014 and started Bootleg Guitars as his own brand of guitars and basses.

OK, sounds like it indeed has a few innovations above what my deans have. If I knew that back in the mid-2,000's I might have considered picking one up. Not that it's too late, but I already have enough sound alternatives for my dwindling music making endevors. Excuse me for saying so, but I just thought, at a glance it looked too much like a fender body. I see it's much more. I would enjoy testing one due to owners' high aclaim of them. Here's one I have not played for a few years 'cause I have a 12 str... so why not?

YNOT indeed… Go for it! Or maybe just find a Dean dealer in your area that has one in stock and just try it out.
