Dean Club!!!

I am pretty sure it does, because I have my Fretless Dean Exotica in the Road Runner and last night I put the Dean Stylist in the actual Dean case for the Dean Exotica fretted.

I'll do this tonight and take pix and post them for you here. Might be late though (after 10:30 PM) as I have my bass lesson tonight.

I'll also put a tape measure on it to make sure it is the same Road Runner Case as I am pretty sure I don't have any model number for it unless the tag is still inside the storage compartment of the case.

I am sure we'll get this sorted out for you. A Hollow Body in a gig bag to me is not a good idea.

Agreed... I don't expect to be taking it too many places, but one never knows. I may get that killer Rock-A-Billy gig one day. ;) I do like to have hard-shells for the HB and I am surprised that one doesnt seem to be available. Either way, first and foremost, I want to get it home safely.

I really appreciate everyones help!

That's what TB-ers do...help each other.

I emailed Dean support and Brad responded almost immediately. Here is what he said...

"the DHS EQAB is the case I have listed for that instrument. We do not another case for it."

From their current inventory of cases, that is correct.
However, back when they made the Stylist the two respective cases were different than each other.
I own both and the case for the Stylist is not as deep and not as long as the DHS EQAB case.
The DHS EQAB case will work, like I indicated above, but the Stylist will move top to bottom and front to back. Side to side is a perfect fit. You'll need some foam padding or double over some bubble wrap at the bottom of the case under and behind the body of the Stylist.

(I did not get a chance to post my pix of the cases I took last night.)

I think I am going to take a look at the Roadrunner case when I get to the store tomorrow. I mean, if it isn't the right one, then why spend the extra for the Dean case. I hope something will work. I'm pretty bummed that the original owner didn't trade/buy the case. Although, given GC's proclivity to refuse cases, they may have had it and GC told him to keep it.:meh:

The Stylist fits like a Glove in the RR case.

Fits like a glove in the RR case.
No movement in any direction. Snug but not forced...closes fine.

Thanks man... that is a lot of work and I really appreciate it. I am going to look at that case at GC today and decide what to do. Your measurement will be very helpful!

Yes, having the measurements will assure you that the RR case at GC is the same one as long as you take a tape measure with you. There was no model number or SKU number on the RR case and I didn't have the tag from it inside the storage compartment of the case like I was hoping so I could compare it to the advertisement link you had posted.

Although it is nice having a case that has the guitar manufacturer's name on it, but for this bass, the fact that it is a Hollow Body Archtop, I think it is better to have it in the RR case plus the RR case is less by at least $30.

Good luck!

Anyone here ever play a 35" scale 4 string bass? Not a 5 string. A 35" 4 string tuned E,A,D,G like usual. Kind of curious what they are like and how they sound.

This is the only 'new' 35" 4 sting that I know of and I have no idea how good or bad it is. They've been around for a while, but the PJ style is the newest version. I like Dean, but their newer offerings can be hit or miss as far as quality goes lately.

A while back I posted a NBD on a Rhapsody 12. Flash forward to a few weeks ago and I took it to a practice with an outreach band that has very little electric presence, but plays a fair amount of rock. I thought the 12er filled the sonic space needed and really shines with distortion. It did and now I’m forbidden from bringing anything else.

Last weekend, at practice I tried something I’d read about here, but hadn’t ever tried. That is to tune 1 octave a touch sharp and the other a touch flat. Creating that chorus like beating effect. I was skeptical when I read it and had always just tuned the bass.

This may be the most amazing tone I’ve ever heard from a bass. Don’t misunderstand, it isn’t for Motown, but for rock or the like, Oh My!! With a good bit of distortion added it’s truly amazing.

So, whoever suggested that, Thanks!! I should have listened sooner. If anyone has a rhapsody and hasn’t tried that, you should do that ASAP.
