Dear Fender

I would take Fender 21 frets, like seriously why did they stop at 20?

You often root on 7, fith and octave is on 9, so octaves on the fith (21) and double octave on the root at 21, while still pedaling the sub octave as an open string...

I like my J but 20 is 1 short! Some things I can only do on my Ibanez 5 string...

they made the perfect 24 fret J bass for two years and no one bought them

I saw that awhile back and thought it would be similar, including the Reverse P......but it's the Pre plus controls (switch, the TBX tone, Q sweep) that makes my Power Jazz Special growl like a grizzly......I'll be sure to check out the Charvel if I ever can get my mitts on one
Yeah, it doesn’t have those things - but it has one of the best necks Fender’s ever produced, and all the other check boxes. Mine is pretty growly.

I suppose that might make some Fender antagonists happy, but I doubt it.

Fender did the truss wheel years ago on the Dimension Am Deluxe (along with a buncha other cool neck features). It didn't sell. Like other Fender models that departed from their standard (read; extremely successful) format....the Dimension was discontinued for lack of sales, despite its extensive feature set and powerhouse electronics. Evidently, even the much-vaunted wheel truss adjuster couldn't sway the myopic contrarians to like the poor Dimension. Nice try Fender, but I bet the old bulls in the marketing dept were thinking all along..."told ya it wouldn't sell".

Much like the failed Fender Roscoe Beck, I won't be surprised if someday, the Dimension gets "discovered" as the well built classic it actually was. And then I suppose we'll be reading threads like... "why doesn't Fender reissue the Dimension?" ;)
I’ve already posted that last question here a number of times. :-D

I own two of these bad boys, a 4 and a 5, both HH American Deluxe. My only regret is that they should both be black on black with maple, but they’re both violin burst with rosewood. Very useful instruments.

If you want Fender to build a 24 fret 5er, get in touch with their custom shop. I’m sure they would be happy to fix you up with whatever you wanted. If they can build an aluminum Strat, I’m sure a 24 fret 5 string bass would be no problem.

Seek out the best quality 5/24 bass for the price and purchase from that manufacturer. You’ll be happier than attempting to get Fender to build what you want. If it would make money, Fender would already be making a 5 string bass with 24 frets. The fact that Fender has made a 5/24 before and no longer do indicates they know it’s not a money maker in their business model. Any company that would build a product that doesn’t fit their business model won’t be around long term, so the request for them to do so will likely fall on deaf ears.

I doubt Fender gives much thought to any random customer suggestions or requests. They conduct their own research and also have a stable of professional players and performing artists to solicit product suggestions from or bounce their own ideas off.

In the early days, Leo Fender primarily worked with local country musicians when developing the Tele, P-bass and Strat. Surf guitarist Dick Dale was the impetus to develop the Dual Showman because he kept blowing up smaller amps.

Those were the days!

P.S. Thank goodness I’ve never played with a guitarist using a Dual Showman :roflmao:

Probably one reason why you still have your hearing today. 100W guitar amps like the Dual definitely did their share of ear damage. How’s that old Bob Seger lyric go? Something like: Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed, with the echoes from the amplifiers ringing in your head…

I'd like Fender to offer new roasted maple replacement JB/PB necks with 21 frets, because my most comfortable right hand slap area is a little closer to bridge than that of the conventional 20 fret necks offer. I think the slight difference wouldn't damage the handsome JB/PB look too much.
