Just looked up this thread as I’m thinking about dropping in a PJ set of Delano’s on my Ibanez Mezzo bass with a Bartolini preamp. Not sure if the combination of Delano’s and Bartolini’s would work but I’m always open to experimenting!!

Delano pickups... Worth the price?

Thanks will do! Pickups on them currently are Dimarzios and I find them lacking a bit of clarity with the treble rolled off. So maybe that clarity on clarity would do perfect
I hate to waste a perfectly good necrothread, so while we're at it, can I just ask if anyone's seen the inside of a Delano Xtender (the oval ones)? I think they look really cool, but I've always wondered about their innards.
I haven't seen inside one but having heard them in Sandberg basses, I think they're awesome!
I have a bass with one, a Sandberg Thinline Cusrom. I must admit, it was one of the things that really attracted me to the bass as you don't see many basses with them.
I've read their website and it does say the oval shaping allows for a unique spacing of the magnets. I guess they may follow the curvature of the pickup housing. As an additional design feature, the thumb cutout on the top edge of the pickup is brilliant, such a great thing to have.
As far as the sound goes, they are deep and rich. Hi-fi, but not harsh. They pick up harmonics beautifully. I am looking forward to trying more of their pickups in future as I have been really impressed by this Sandberg.

I'm also using and Obsidian wiring kit. 250k pot. Plug them in and play. Solder less. Meaning I can change out pick-ups on the fly with no soldering

are all the delano pickups the same dimensions within the same class? i.e. can I swap out my 5 string, fat pole piece jazz style pickups with the more vintagey 5 string jazz pickup?
I hope so. My split coil Jazz 5 string Delano’s arrived yesterday. Their going in my American Pro II Jazz Bass this week. I just had a set of Seymour Duncan Apollos 5 string pickups installed in an American Pro Jazz I got back yesterday. Along with an American Pro II Precision 5 string that got a set of Delano’s. Loving both so far. A set
Of split coil Fralins are on the way now and going in my last American Pro Jazz V.
I think most manufacturers make the two styles - the Fender one with the bridge being wider than the neck, and other spacing where both pickups are the same width.
anyone know the sonic differences between their 1/4 pounders, their hum canceling jazz and their rail magnet versions? Their site is extremely vague about that...
I’ve got the humcancelling Jazz set - they’re in the same kinda zone, that more
authoritative Jazz sound. I found the Delano’s to have a less mid scoop, more balls, and a bit more top grind as compared to the Quarter Pounders.
The neck does a convincing P tone solo’d, and the bridge has a bit more chunk.
