Delano pickups... Worth the price?

Delanos are awesome. I have a jazz bass with three JMVC 4 FE/M2 (in kinda Fender HM style) pickups and MTD Kingston Artist 5 with JMVC 5 FE/M2 and MC 5 FE/M2. All passive. They cope with my super aggressive playing style very well. Couldn't be happier.
I also have Nordstrand BigSplit and BigSplitMan on other jazz... Even though great pups, i still prefer Delanos.

I use Delano FE fat poles. Took some getting used to but when you add in pre amps thats the way it is, I find.
I like their character and I think I have them sounding great.
I think Nordstrands J singles are the cleanest I found. It takes a few weeks to get these to speak and your technique needs to be clean as there is no bluffing with them. Maybe the Delanos have a touch more forgiveness in this regard.

I have opportunity to buy Ibanez BTB 805 MS in a good price. But I really don't dig the sound of Varimid pre amp and the new T1 pickups. I am playing Metal and these electronic makes this bass sound somehow weak and without character.
I have pretty aggressive finger style, slap and some tapping. In my pedal board I use are:
-iSP Noise gate
-MXR M87 compressor
-Darkglass X Ultra.
I would like to replace Varimid with Darkglass tone capsule and T1's with some pick ups that will cover not so standard T1 PUPs dimensions and will bring some character and punch to the tone.
The dimensions of T1 pickups are (I got this info from my local music shop):
Length: ~130 mm
Width of the single: ~15 mm
Width of both singles: ~ 32 mm
+/- 2mm
I have found that Delano SBC7 HE/S will be perfect with dimensions. But I didn't found any videos on YT or samples that will show how these PUPs sound like. Is there anyone that would advise if these pick ups will be any good for the playstyle and genre that I am curently playing?

Hi everyone. I've just put Delano HE/M2 jazz pickups into a 1999 Fender Am Deluxe Jazz. Overall they are a big improvement with a lot more information coming through, but I'm finding them to be quite trebly, and a bit light in the bass frequencies. I'm having to use the bass boost on the preamp to get back to the bassiness of the stock Fender pickups. Has anyone else had this experience when upgrading to Delanos? Perhaps it's just the HE/M2 model?

Hello! Do you still have the same thoughts about the JC5HE/M2 or was just the first impression?
I am about to buy the same set but some people say these pickups are thin sounding or very bright....
Good (old) thread here. I've been considering some Delano JMVC FE/S pickups for my Sandberg California TT-5 Superlight, and I'm wondering--do Delano's large-pole J pickups have slightly staggered pole pieces for even string-to-string balance? I was told they do, but in almost every photo they look even/flush, and I'm contemplating a change largely to get more relative punch from the A string.
I also want a slightly more aggressive tone, which I'm fairly sure the JMVC would provide.

Delano PC 4 AL pickups sound good in my P Bass. I don't know why they aren't more commonly discussed on here.
I replaced the Delano HE/M2 pickups I had bought with their JMVC 4 FE/M2 - same bass, same amp, all other variables the same, and the result was a huge improvement and frankly gorgeous tone - far more balanced. I would recommend the JMVC 4 FE/M2 100%. The others weren't bad but just too trebly, while these are much fuller while retaining an almost sparkling quality in the highs and upper mids. Even non-bass players in my home noticed a huge improvement.
They are flush but I haven't noticed any imbalance whatsoever on a 10 inch radius instrument.
Hi again, I know this was a while ago but I have continued experimenting with Delano pickups and felt I had been unfair here. While the HE/M2 were a little bright on my Jazz Bass (ash/maple) in a J-J configuration - or the bridge position one was anyway - that same exact bridge pickup later got combined with a PC4 HE/M2 in a PJ layout on another bass (mahogany/rosewood) and it honestly sounds fantastic, soloed and combined. With both pickups I am getting a convincing Wooten tone on a completely passive bass (!)
So I suppose for me this was just a reminder that this is as much about the instrument it’s used on and the context as the pickup itself
Finally I went with Delano JC5 AL/M2 AS.
Very different pickups compared to anything else I had tried so far (Bartolini, fralin, seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, G&L etc).
Not better or worse... just different.

As an experiment I asked Delano to put two FE/M2 pickups in one housing, to try in my Fodera while its other pickup was being long-term repaired, and the result has been so good I’m in no hurry to put the other pickup back in, nice though it will be. Will upload clips when I get a chance.
I've decided to put my Delano PMVC 4 FE/M2 with a Delano Xpure Buffer/Preamp/Line Driver in my PBass. I will put it on a 2 way mini switch for Passive/Active.
Pickup really sounds exceptional and will be amazing!
