Deluxe Jaguar or Standard American Jazz?

Hello guys!

I hate to be posting a question as my first post (and I hope this is the right place for it, read the sticky thread but didn't find anything about asking questions like this one) but I really need the help of some knowledgeable bassist!

I'm currently seeking to replace my cheapo bass and I'm really torn between the Deluxe Jaguar and the Standard American JB. I only have around 1200€ to spend so the Deluxe JB is unfortunately out of the question.
I was wondering if you would help me decide between the two!

I really like the JB's sound and feel but I've been playing a passive bass for well over 8 years now and I'd like to try something different.

What are your opinions on these two basses? Which one would you recommend?

Then heres a few options worth looking at: Fenders Custom shop. Or Warmoths Custom shop. These fellas will steer you in the right direction and give you several options in design to make your build original and sound awesome. The catalog from Warmoth will give you a basic idea of what works with what in terms of woods and electronics/ pickup types. the end product will be something very special. $1200 will go a very long way . Active pickups that can be split into passive mode are really nice. Warmoths onboard EQ is add on is one of the best. Not to forget PRS guitars they build one of the better bass guitars, you will pay out more, but its worth every red cent, as these guitars will always appreciate in value , so this is a consideration. $1200 wont go a long way at any custom shop. Warmoth doesnt make preamps. PRS makes awful basses. SMH.


OK, to the OP:
The Jag looks really cool but suffers from neck dive and noisy electronics. Get the USA JB and enjoy a great instrument.

I Have both the original Jaguar and an American Standard Jazz.

I dislike the latter somewhat less than the former.

The original Jaguar and the current "Deluxe" Jaguar are, as far as I know, essentially the same (I've been told the neck profile is a little beefier on the new one). If so, it has crappy ceramic pickups and excessive crappy, noisy electronics (even after fixing the original shielding discontinuity) and is essentially just a gimmick design -- though it is well-constructed and detailed by Dyna-Gakki. I always prefer MIJs, but there's just too much pointless geekery on this bass trying to be funny.

The American Standard Jazz is just a Jazz with new features I don't especially like, in addition to the things about the basic Jazz design already I don't like. QC is unpredictable, but usually adequate.

If you don't have a compelling need for quick on-stage tone adjustments, I advise against active tone controls as you're better off adjusting your tone further up in the signal path.
