Demeter Minnie 800D Question

Just recently I sent my Vintage 1988 Demeter VTB-201 Bass tube Pre amp to Dememter for some modification. I had them add the MINNIE 800D 800watt power modual to my vintage Preamp...
All I can say is WOW!!!! Huge power, very quick to respond, and handle high volume without skipping a beat. Adding the MINNIE 800D power modual only added 3.5 lbs to the overall weight of my preamp. And, of course like most all demeter product we are dealing with True hi fidelity stuff here...no "Color" added, jus the real deal tone.
The concerns that I have had with "D class" power amps have been true on all other brands that I have tried. BUT...Dememter has solved the problem. This is the "Real deal" hear my friends.
As for the cost...well worth the expense to have it done right!

Bigdogbass,
I too have a vintage 201 with the internal amp.
I like it very much. I started a thread a few days ago trying to find other users' opinions but nobody responded.
Question: does yours buzz for about 5 seconds when you turn it on? Mine does, then it gently fades away and becomes dead silent.

Not great news to report I'm afraid..

- I bought the amp 3 months ago, sent it back more or less straight away and I'm still waiting for a replacement amp...!

Can't say I'm impressed with the service. Don't forget, this is not a cheap amp!

When I get the replacement amp, I will report back if its better..

Any updates? I am considering this amp myself.

I had an HBP1-800D. You can run another pre into the effects loop, which bypasses the tube-section EQ. The parametric EQ is bypassable with its switch. The only thing that is not bypassed is the Presence control. Since there is a switch for the effects loop in the front and send/return level controls, you can set your second pre as you like it and switch between the HBP and the second pre simply by engaging the effects loop. I ran Monique through the HBP1-800D that way, with some added top end from the presence control. They were a great combo.

The ability to do that is one if the best features of that amp, in my opinion - a really viable poweramp when using the effects loop, which is wired, per conversation with James Demeter, to bypass the tube stage and pretty much all of the HBP's tone-shaping circuitry.

Don't remove the ICE module. Rack the HBP with whatever other pre you want to use. Or don't, but leave it intact. You gain little, in my opinion, by removing it, and you lose some useful features of keeping it in.

Old thread; and I'm afraid I am not too aware of the original Q's. However, I am using the Minnie 800 as part of my modular large rig. I like the tone I get from James' gear; so, perhaps I am biased in that sense. But, anyhow, this rig slams. Slams.

BTW, the VTBP, has an internal Minnie 800 in it. I use that "rack" when I am gigging a single 212.

One thing I thought that I'd mention. Fellow TB'er Radbass is making a similar stand alone mini amp with the 1200 watt Ice module. I (and many others) feel that it's vastly superior in all ways to the Mini. (except it weighs about 2# more) Same price. Don't get me wrong---the Mini is a great little amp. I just think that Randy's amp has more power, impact, and better fidelity than the amps based on the other Ice module.

Both JGR and I chose the 1200 watter for our amps. It would have been cheaper and lighter to use any of the other Ice modules. The difference in sound and function was worth it, I think.

I'm waiting for mine to arrive by Friday. I'm going to be using it with Invalid Link Removed
The Le Bass preamp sounded awesome through my Demeter Bass 600 set flat, but it's heavier that I'm willing to carry on a daily basis.
So, I'll chime on on the Minnie with Le Bass after Saturday night's gig...
Play on....

Not to derail to much, but is there a thread or something with the one Radbass is making? I tried a couple of searches, including via all threads he's started, and haven' found it.

I'm eyeing options for pedalboard mounting power amps... the 800D caught my eye, as did the Quilter Bass Block + Tone Blocks. Having another option to peek at would be great.

Please keep us posted. I suspect the result will depend entirely on what kind of instrument you are using and the voicing of that particular preamp. I have posted elsewhere that running a Sadowsky outboard preamp into the Minnie works pretty well for passive Jazz Basses. But, that particular preamp is not voiced well for active instruments; which tend to perform better with a flatter voicing. It's a head scratcher for me. No question the Minnie is devastating with the VTBP-201. But, the Minnie really needs a smaller format preamp with proper voicing. I haven't found it yet.
