Describe this playing in 5 words or less....

Interesting composition and well executed.
I was prepared to hate it after reading the volume of negative comments before I listened but I was pleasantly surprised. And I'm not usually that interested in slapping but I could hear other instruments, guitar and drums, rocking along with him. Not that it was needed. He came across as focused to me and intense.

He doesn't play anything like Miller. If you think Evan's slap technique is like Marcus' then you need to pay closer attention.
In this particular video, Evan is using a plucking technique used by guitar players all the time. It isn't a classic slap pop.

He's got two albums worth of solo material and it isn't all annoyingly fast slap slicks - certainly not just some guy posting youtube videos. Rest assured, he can get gigs if he wants to.

I'm not familiar with the thrash scene so I am not aware of him. I see tons of guys like this who I call the Youtube all stars. They're posting videos of them in their bedrooms slapping and tapping like crazy but hardly any of them playing on gigs playing BASS.

When I say not betting called for work I mean bands like wedding bands, corporate work, tribute bands and the like. Could he play dance or Top 40 or country or fill in with my Billy Joel tribute band? Maybe. If all I had to go on was this video the OP posted he probably wouldn't get the call. It is a skillset as I mentioned but a skillset that those gigs require is being solid, having a great tone and singing backup and the video didn't showcase those skills.

If he's happy doing what he's doing than good for him. But it's outside the norm for what many consider hire-able skills for bass playing.

He doesn't play thrash metal, he plays progressive metal which is more technical typically. I'm not sure he'd be interested in playing in a wedding or corporate band. He gets plenty of work playing very difficult progressive pieces for several bands, some of which are signed to Sumerian records which is probably one of the biggest labels for prog metal. I know you dont mean any disrespect and neither do I, I just think that maybe different people see his playing through different lenses. If all I like is older music that relies on P basses and flats then I will likely not appreciate double thumb technique and tapping as much. I for one like pretty much all bass playing in every genre exceeept maybe norteno...

Yeah I can agree with that... in fact I'm having a difficult time imagining a death/progressive metal corporate gig :laugh:
