Diamond P-Custom 5

Have you ever adjusted pickup height on a bass? A little distance makes a very noticeable difference.

We're not talking up/down distance. We're talking side to side distance. The G string is WAAAY off the pole piece. Look at the Sadowsky in post #4. Notice how the G string is directly over the pole piece? Now look at the Schecter. Not even close. It's like the pickups are backwards, the top should be on the bottom. Look at the top pickup...it's got pole pieces way above the B string.

I understand that. I'm just saying if a little up/down distance makes a difference, then the extra distance from the pole piece from moving it sideways is also going to make a difference. It won't make as much difference, because moving it sideways 4 mm (just for example) doesn't move it 4mm further from the pole piece (thank you Trig 101), but it will make a difference.

There's another thread showing ACTUAL owner pictures where the pole-piece issue is fixed on two of these basses as received.

It appears the ones used for the stock photos were off, not on the production basses being sold.

Looks like an interesting bass, got me thinking about one with an Audere preamp added. Hmmmm.

I have only played the 4 string version at GC and I was very impressed. These are good sounding and solid feeling instruments. They are a bit on the heavy side so if you normally do a long set list this could be an issue. The frets on the one I tried were done well, not amazingly so, but still better than most of its competition and even some a level above.

Tonally I would have to agree that the "voicing" is more rock oriented, but still very versatile with only a minimum of 60 cycle hum.

As for resale, I don't really bother buying an instrument for resale. When I'm buying it I'm usually planning on keeping it. Odd I know. :smug:

In short I like 'em.
