I was wondering if Fender ever had a Precision bass that had block inlays?
I have never seen one and was curious if they made a model like that, and if not, why not ?

    I don't think so.

For a second I thought you were in the awesome Louisville, KY band Frontier(s)

The recent 'Big Block' precision does, but no traditional P basses ever had them.

Google search "big block precision". Not a p-bass in the classic sense & some pretty lame reviews, but kinda neat looking.

You can always make your own. Just add a late '60s - late 70's Jazz neck to a Precision body.

In this case, a '72 neck on a 2001 body

Nope, Im in Windsor Ontarios Frontiers, right across the bridge from you haha

Yeah thats not the same thing, its not the traditional precision we all love.

How come they never had inlays? Any specific reason Fender decided not to have them ?

its not the same thing but better!
well - for me anyway-- a p bass with a easy to get around jazz neck is awsome!

I'd assume they just kept the block inlays with the jazz to set it apart from the rest of the fleet

I like em tho-- cuz in bad lighting on stage i can look down fast if for some reason i'm gettin lost on the fretboard and find my place fast:bag:

    Heres MIine =

Take a look on pg 54 of The Fender Bass An Illustrated History Hal Leonard books ISBN 0-634-02640-2.There is shown a Charcoal Frost 1969 P with a maple black block inlay, black bound neck. Certainly not a production bass but such creatures did exist!

Or you can go with an Allparts neck. Much less money than a vintage Fender Jazz neck, but with the exact same construction.

    A rare bird indeed

I saw a MIJ P for sale not too long ago with "long stem" 60's tuners and B&B neck...it's gone now, but it was SWEET.

Here's my "Mary Kaye" style version I made from parts I re-discovered in my shop during a clean-up. The only Fender parts on it is the RI pickguard and the flatwound strings.

That bass was the biggest eye-catcher for me in the entire book. To top it off, pretty sure that's an A neck Jazz width.
