Did you consider resale value before buying your colored (non-black) cab?

I really dig the Avatar blue tolex cabs, like this B210 and B212 (These would make one cooool looking stack!)

I think it's completely badass. But down the road a potential buyer might not. That fact "forced me" to buy my Avatar G212 guitar cab in "basic black." I was worried about resale value down the line. It seems that the vast majority of the time, black (tolex or rat fur) is always the safe bet.

Now I'm faced with the same conundrum with buying my bass cab.

I like the look of my Walkabout rig as much as the tone. No regrets. Ditto for my Orange cab and a blue WA combo.

I considered a different color cab when I ordered my Carvin amp back in the spring. I decided against it because I thought it would hurt resale value. IMO it would be easier to sell a black amp/cab than a color one.

Buy what you like, you didn't buy for the next person that might never own it. If it a good cab it will still be worth the $$$.

The only cabs I've owned that aren't black are my B-15 cabs. I'm not worried about resale value on them...I'll have them till I'm dead

Ever see those home makeover shows describing how the dated and unappealing "Avocado Green" kitchen appliances lower the resale value?.....kinda the same thing!

no matter what gear I buy, I consider potential resale since history has shown that I'll likely sell anything after enough time.

I very much understand the "buy what you like" mentality; I'm a big believer in "If you don't make you happy, who will?"

OTOH, I've also seen lots of home makeover shows. I can almost see the replies to my FS ad now: /shimmering flashback sound "I've been looking for one of these cabs for years now! Great price too! Unfortunately, it's blue/green/orange and won't go with my rig."

I know what's going to happen with my cab purchase; I'm gonna wind up flipping a coin, that's what!

Could not care less about resale value. I didn't buy my gear to trade. I bought it to play. I care how it sounds, and then I care about the construction and durability of the covering. All, as pragmatic matter. Ultimately, if it sounds good, it is good. That is all.

A few years ago, when I managed the used car department at a Honda dealership, someone traded in a mid-nineties Ford Thunderbird. Nice enough car, but the color was like a cross between cobalt blue and....uh...well.......... purple . The paint had just enough pearl in it to make it glow with a little greenish tint at certain angles. Kinda like a blowfly, (if y'all know what that looks like, LOL).
I remember saying, "This one will take forever to sell!!" The very next day a young woman walked into the showroom, and spying that T-Bird, exclaimed "I've been looking all over for a car that color!!" So, she bought it on the spot.

Moral of the story; "There's an ass for every seat" (it's an old car dealer saying). Buy what you like, worry about the rest later.

^^Nice story, lbwdog. That sounds like one of those "chameleon" paintjobs; it changes color depending on the angle you're looking at. Fugly, IMO. And aye; there's the rub. She thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. An ass for every seat. LOL!

Sorry but I found these hurt my eyes. OTOH when I was running my amp company all the cabinetry was covered in white. I found longevity of the good looks very short so I switched to black.

me, i am cool with whatever. ive had cabs that were different colors (sometimes on the same cab ) and they sounded just fine.

The harsh reality of any gear is it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

So why bother worrying about what it's resale value is if you're buying it for yourself?

Besides, Avatar resale in general will be low. I bought both of my Avatar 2x10 cabs, used\blem for approx $220 each, shipped.

So you've already lost value because no one except people on message boards knows what an Avatar cab is! And those of us that know, want to get a used one for a song!

Am about to purchase an avatar 2x12 bass cab (featured in the pics in blue). Wondering - how will this be as a stand alone cab until i get a 2x10 to go with it? or preferably a 1x18 >.> This is the first cab I will be purchasing, and Im really hoping it lives up to reviews, just wondering what those of you who do have products by this brand think. Oh, and I am getting it in blonde. Id say go with whatever color you like best!

I recall that color - - And my wife (at the time) LOVED it. She wanted to get her car painted that color.

Funny, I have those exact cabs.

I never hesitated when picking the blue. Great sounding as a stack or individually standing alone. I am however thinking of selling them and going with a pair of single 12"s.
