Diggin' me some Graham Maby...

A fantastic bassist (and, by all accounts, a really nice guy), Graham Maby’s playing really influenced me a lot when I was learning to play.

He’s changed his playing style and his sound considerably since then but he’s still a great player. I saw him with JJ a couple of years ago and…. yup…. he’s still got it!

This is my favorite Graham Maby bass line:

TBH, I learned about it from the mighty Anthrax

The band I was in at that time when Look Sharp first came out decided to do a cover of Got The Time, it had been many years since I had used a pick, it took a bit to get up to speed again but we pulled it off, his bass lines are so much much fun to play live.

Maby played for years with Marshall Crenshaw; during one of those shows I got to converse with him a bit, but I did also see an OG Joe Jackson Band gig.

Here’s a house concert I wouldn’t mind happening upon….

What’s going on is…it’s Halloween, at the house of one of the members of the Smithereens. Crenshaw often guests on tour as frontman for the band since the passing of Pat DiNizio, and I guess he brought Graham along.
