Digital preamp

+1 on the Zoom B3.

FWIW, I had the full ADA bass rig back in the day, MB-1, B500B power amp, 2x10, and 1x15 cab bi-amp rig...it was great for what I was doing then. I never ran the MB-1 without the rest of the rig. Sold the rig a few years ago. (I also had full ADA guitar rigs, MP-1 and MP-2, had the MQ-1 as well (MIDI graphic EQ). Still have my main MP-2 with noise mod, does not see much use but will not sell it.

For rack, I dig my Trace Elliot MP-11, they come up from time to time, GP12SMX (preamp) is worth a look but not programmable...

The ART SGX nightbass was awful, got one when they first came out...could not sell it fast enough. It went crazy one night at practice (not a show, luckily) while playing at full band volume, and let out a high pitch squeal for several seconds that I think damaged many ears that night until I managed to turn it off.

IMO / YMMV
