If it’s a function of the preamp then I can see why the ng would be different

I just looked on dingwalls website and that feature is definitely part of the Glockenklang preamp

I can’t stand the look of most of the NG finishes. When I saw neon green, yellow, orange etc...I was stunned that people were buying them. I don’t wanna use the term ugly but I’m just truly not a fan of such a “loud” and obscure color scheme.

I'm not a fan of the "shouting" finishes either, but I do like the Laguna Seca blue.

I think the NG-3 brings the standard Combustion & NG series closer together.

I would also guess a non-NG styled Combustion-3 would be a winner. More traditional finish palate and aesthetics, 3X switching and traditionally voiced EQ points on a preamp would probably slay the Sub-$2K import-boutique market.

That is how I ended up with my modded combustion. For me it was more about having a rosewood fretboard than color.

If I may pick the many fine brains online here, would anyone have a bright idea on how to remove the remaining gold lettering on the bridge pickup on my NG?

I'd start (carefully) with the usual solvents:

-alcohol
-nail polish remover
-naptha

..before moving on to more caustic thing.

Most of the “loud finishes” turn me off but the color change burst where you can see the grain just look amazing to me. These two are stunning.

Yes there is, the treble control on the 2017 is a passive tone control in passive mode. I have one.

Then somebody switched out the preamp. Standard Combustions come with the EMG.

Like someone else said, the only preamp offering that has the passive tone on a CANADIAN Dingwall is the Glockenklang which isn’t an option on the Chinese imports.

I've got an orange and it's a lot more soft and less neon than you might think. Anyway, most of those colours are discontinued for the NGs now.

Are they actually discounted, or are they just 'standard' while the swirls are an upcharge. I haven't heard anything official about the colors being discontinued, but I'm not a dealer or rep.

Yeah, That's a cool color. There's also a Ford Mustang maroon metallic red that's the same.

My NG is the Mopar Purple. Admittedly, it wouldn't be my pick of colors but I had to get in on the Dingwall train while I could. I have ZERO regrets. I wonder if the swirl patterns have been a home run or a strikeout? Personally, they don't do anything for me. Too reminiscent of the Ibanez JEM guitars I suppose.

Yeah, they seem to be popular. I believe they've been doing well. I know I've seen a bunch of people posting up new ones. It's not the finish for me, but I'm psyched that they're making them and doing some cool different production stuff. I can top you. Remember the Fender bowling-ball finishes of the early 80's? Similar vibe and I believe process. It all kind of goes back hundreds of years to paper making though.

That’s the position I ended up in, just took the best of what was available. The demand is exceeding the supply big time and they are getting harder to come by. I suspect it’s only gonna get worse. Now is probably the best time to order a custom. As popularity increases and wait time goes up they’ll likely raise their prices. I remember when ordering a new Wal was 6 thousand and now it’s over 8 thousand a few years later.

It was between this and the orange metallic. I'm pretty happy with this though. It can look dark, almost black on stage.

As the owner of a handful of Dingwall basses of a few tiers and years, and someone who's played 'em exclusively for hundreds and hundreds of performances since 2005...I love this stupid NG-3. It's just a great fun bass to play. It sounds great. It's well built. It looks fantastic.
