AB I 6'er in whalepool blue.

i'm not NEAR as knowledgable about woods and what goes into making an awesome bass, i just know this is the most comfortable and beautiful thing i've ever played on. the few times i've picked up any of my other basses since i got this have just felt wrong. looking forward to ordering another so that i have a back up/alternate that i WANT to play.

I think a 5 string Z3 would be MY next Dingwall. Update: I'm loving my new Super J! So many tones outa the rotary switch. :D:D:D

Today I had my frist class with a new bass teacher and as soon as I pulled my ABZ out of the gig bag he said: "Wow. Why are the frets like that?" I handed him the bass, he played for a while and said he really liked it and said it was very comfortable. :smug:

I'm currently in San Diego (Calif) visiting family & for a family funeral (uncle), and today got a chance to run over to Bass San Diego. They had 2 AB IIs in stock, and I got a chance to give them a bit of a spin. Certainly got my GAS/DAS into overdrive. Wow! Good thing I already have started saving money for an ABII...Now, if only I could win the lottery or something so I wouldn't have to wait a year or two to have the money saved up! (Whine)

Well day one of the show was a great success, the Dingwall Basses stand hosted by the Bass Direct Co. was one of busiest if not THE busiest stand at the show, we were lucky that this year Sheldon Dingwall attended the show himself and I had the pleasure to meet this legendary man, in wat I consider to be "a once in a lifetime" chance for me here in England.

The icing on the cake was the many artist who held clinics and masterclasses such as T.M. Steven, Marco Mendoza, Gary Willis, Mark King, Stu Hamm and Dave Swift, which made this show one of the most exciting we had in years.

And for those who were unable to attend I have prepared a slideshow of pics during and after the show, including an after show party dinner I was fortunate to attend thanks to Mark @ Bass Direct.

I have to add... seeing Gary Willis playing solo live with just a recorded backing track was mind boggling, the talent he showcases is beyond belief.

Tried my first Dingwall yesterday (a Combustion) at the London Bass Guitar Show (UK) where Sheldon Dingwall was on hand to chat into the bargain. I knew I was going to like it as the physics just make sense to me, especially for a 5 string. Looked weird in my hands but was as easy as pie to play. I think I know what my next bass guitar purchase will be.

This is one option I wished Sheldon offered. My last 2 basses had gold hardware & I thought they looked pretty sharp. That being said if he only offered pink hardware I would still be lined up for my next Dingwall.

John, that's a great looking ABII. Hope you're enjoying rockin' it. While my main squeeze is my V/Z1, I took my ol' ABI (whalepool blue, BluEQube, FD3 era) to rehearsal the other night and was reminded how wonderful the AB's are. It sounded great.

Bozendoka, that new hardware is sweeeet. I wish Sheldon had an option on either chrome/nickel hardware or a brushed steel. There's a beautiful VERY custom Prima Artist that Sheldon did for an employee at one time and it has one-off hardware that's silver. I believe it was originally powder coated and they stripped it...

It looks like I misspoke slightly when I originally posted this. I definitely am moving to a pre/power setup and now the details are solidified.

TB'er Chadds messaged me about a month ago saying he was thinking about and probably selling off his beloved and VERY rare Kern IP-777 in about a month. I believe he was waiting for the details of his Jules Monique tube preamp to become set and get it in his hands.

I should be seeing the IP-777 showing up sometime early next week. It's a internal-powersourced later model, and he's outfitted it with Sylvania tubes (including at least one JAN).

The IPR3000 is being ordered this weekend along with a new 3 space rack and the supplies for a bridging cable.

So the setup should be:
Afterburner 1
or
Rastaburst Voodoo/Zebra 1
into:
Kern IP-777->
Peavey IPR-3000->
fEARful 15/6->
fEARful 15/sub

That should be a totally SMOKIN' rig right there!

The Kern's 'tone control' knob (IIRC as to what it's called -- may be 'tonal balance' I forget as it's been a while) is the magic control for how tubey or solid state the tone is.
As you go to the more solid state tone, I think you need to boost the lows some to compensate for the tone thinning out a bit.

Thanks, and thanks for the info!

This new amp setup is sort of a 1300$ surprise. I really wasn't looking to go so 'big' on things, but then when Chadds made the offer out of the blue for the Kern, I couldn't say no. I believe is a sort of Karmic/cosmic/God/intelligence in our universe and occasionally stuff like this happens and you need to ride it out.

I'm definitely going to be playing around with the setup and working to balance the lows and warmth I like with keeping things as clean as I can.

As of this afternoon, I have tracking for the Kern as well as invoices for all the other parts and pieces. It will be an adjustment to go back to a rack setup, but I'm hoping that since the IPR is only 7 pounds it won't be too much of an adjustment.
