Dingwall Owners Club

Put some TI flats on my Super PJ5 and I'm really loving them, now I'm wondering if they'd work as well on the ABZ or Combustion...

I also picked up a Darkglass AO Ultra, I've never been able to get an overdrive sound I really like from Darkglass pedal and have ended up flipping them after a couple of months and wondering what all the fuss was about. This one is something else, plays really well with the Super PJ.

How's the cab sim? I've read some conflicting comments on its. Some report it being dead silent and others say they have a very loud hiss. I love my regular AO and I'm thinking about "upgrading"

I've only played with the cab sim briefly as I'm in the middle of a house move so half my gear is packed up right now. I can say for certain that the stock cab sims are noisy through headphones.
However, I loaded some free 3rd party IRs and they were silent, so there is a good chance the Darkglass IRs are just noisy. I've bought a couple of 3Simga IRs to try next week once my gear is unpacked again and I'll let ya know as I'm experimenting to see if that's the issue.

I really like my AOU, but I think it worked better for my SP5 than my ABHS (personally, YMMV, IMO etc). . I'm very interested in the Tech21 NYC DP-3X, as it seems to have the kind of grit and edge I'm looking for in my tone. While the AOU can deliver pretty much any kind of distortion you could ever want, it might actually be a bit overkill for me personally (I don't use very much distortion).

You can see from my settings I'm only really using it as OD and EQ, I'm not a big distortion user either. I've been through 14 overdrives this year trying to find the right one, think I'm finally happy. Not had a chance to use it with the Combustion much just yet as that band is on a little summer break (our main guy is on a 2-month acoustic tour).

My HS is in for a preamp transplant.

Looking forward to hearing what you say about the other IRs.

I rarely use the blend on full nowadays. The depending on the genre I left more of the original signal come through and adjust the drive amount and level to taste.
For a "tube breakup" sound, I've had great luck with the blend at around 9-10 o'clock, low drive (similar to what you have) and level to taste

Odd timing that you guys are having this conversation - I just finished putting an AOU on my board. I too have found the stock cabs have noise with headphones, but I have a few others to test eventually.

So. Strings. I'm getting my hands on an ABI pretty soon and have no idea where to start my long scale string journey. Any good suggestions out there? My Super J covers my plectrum rock n roll sound, so I'm going for the finger playing tight pop bass sound here.

Start with what's on it :). Then I'd suggest just rolling through the Dingwall and Payson offerings to start and see what works best for you.
