I see I am not the only one who hates an open-style bridge. I tend to just hold the strings tight to keep them in place but I might try the clamp technique in the future.
Hmm... the open bridge is not a problem for me - I love the ease of string changing. I wind the string onto the post until I can slip the ball end into the bridge, then keep tension on the string with my right hand while winding the key with my left.
I don’t hate it, I love how quick it makes taking strings off and putting them on once a set has been mounted. I’m fairly neurotic about how the windings look on the tuners, so I prefer to have the left hand for winding the tuner, right hand holding the string closer to the nut than the bridge, so the clamp helps keep the ball end from getting squirrelly.
