Well a Bongo basically sound like a P bass on steroids. What I like about it is its versatility as well, as I play all types of music. How versatile do you think the AB1 is?

TOTALLY with ya on the fours. Sheldon's four bangers are way underrated and absolutely awesome. I had a 4 string Z2 that I miss terribly. Had to sell for monetary reasons. It was the best 4 string I've ever played.

That proto AB is just SWEEEEET!

Currently playing a Dingwall Prima V that I purchased in 2000. I found it in a music store in Poughkeepsie NY. It was hanging on the wall of the store. I walked in, looked around...saw the bass...told the salesperson "Hey, that looks pretty weird, let me play it..." hehehe and that's all it took for me to buy one...looking for a Super J 5 next, going to have to wait a while since my GK 800RB just blew the transformer...got myself a Markbass Little Mark Tube 800...wow...

Not necessarily, but there are some "non-fanned fret" strings that can work depending on the bass. If you go to the Dingwall bass forum there's a lot of specific information regarding strings. There are more options available now than ever before and I suspect that more manufactures may get into the fold before too long. If you like a good set of SS Roundwounds it's really hard to do better than the original Dingwall strings, IMO.

It's hit or miss, mostly miss on the length of the B string. There's 4 Fanned string sets available right now specifically for 37"-34" Fanned Fret Dingwall's. 2 SS versions, 1 Nickel Steel and 1 Fanned Flats set.

I got my SS Payson's yesterday and installed them right-away.

My initial reaction: I'm very impressed! They feel great, set up was easy and with perfect intonation, and they feel quite similar to the DR strings I've gotten used to on my other basses. They sound great too. Not the same as a Hi/Fat-Beam, but great in their own way I guess (can't put the difference into words just yet), but a lot of that may be my very limited experience with the Dingwall Combustion sound.

I had so much fun with it at our tues night practice this week:hyper:, and that was with old strings. It just felt right. The only problem was that all I had was a 90/straight instrument cable and it didn't take more then a small bump, or slight stepping on, of the chord, and that stupid recessed jack would spit the plug halfway out. That was annoying . . . and loud squealing too. I'm guessing that a straight/straight cable is the way to go with these.

Oh, and about this DAS thing . . . yeah . . . I've already started looking/shopping for the step up in quality from Dingwall. :D This could get expensive. :bawl:

Playing chords on fanned frets it is no harder than playing them on a standard fretted bass, in fact if you play in the confort zone from say... 4th fret to 17th the fanned frets allow for a more natural approach to your fingers, of course things will get a little bit more complicated from fret 17th to 24th but then again, who plays chords that high even on a parallel fretted bass anyway? :confused:

Trust me there's enough real estate to experiment with chords on a Dingwall! ;)

I got a set of Paysons recently; definitely like the B-string on this set a little better. There was a lot of setup work to get them sounding and feeling right for me, but I do think I like the set a bit more than the stock light gauge Dingwall strings.

The feel of the strings is not that different than a normal dingwall set. Still pretty rough. Stainless strings make me really wish I could use nickel strings :)

I've got a Knuckle B-string to try out soon too so can report on that.
