Dingwall Owners Club

Here's my new Limited Edition Afterburner 1.5 in light blue-burst.
It's one from a run the is exclusive to Jive Sound near D.C. (thanks Jong!). This AB 1.5 features an alder body, flamed top, maple neck, wenge fingerboard, Dingwall FD pickups, and an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp.
I knew this DAS was gonna' be a rough ailment after the first half-hour with my Combustion. Hopefully this will still it for a spell.
Pics: The first 3 are shot with my Cannon digital, the last one my phone camera. Big difference in the color. I'd say that it falls somewhere in-between to the naked eye . . . not as purple as the first, not as light/bright blue as the last.

Very well done! I looked at this bass longingly before finding my first Dingwall, congratulations on a very rare color and AB1.5!!!

I just purchased the Combustion that was owned by stflbn, sold to jabazz and now sold to me. It's a matte black with the black pearl pickguard. Can I join the club? Pretty please.
Actually, I play Circle Ks on my ABII and they fit perfectly. For a fiver, you want to order the Traditional CKS-130M5TH $36.25, which is their medium length (36-37" scale length), traditional tension (which will then balance due to the fanned scale lengths) and the string tensions are:
130-98-76-57-43
This is VERY similar to the tensions on the Dingwall Voodoo SS strings made originally for Sheldon.
The reason I love the Circle Ks is that they are a nickel alloy over stainless steel, so they have the feel of nickel strings, but the snap of SS. The nickel alloy tames the SS brightness just the right amount so they feel broken in right off the bat and they mellow even more as you play them. Sort of the best of both worlds IMHO. YMMV.

I'm using the exact same strings on my ABII.
Overall I'm very happy with them, but I think when these wear out I may try the next lighter gauge set (.124 .094 .073 .055 .041) because it seems like the B and E are just a little bit tighter than I need.

I haven't handed out numbers in some time...but we can come up with one if you really want. I was hoping we'd get away from the numbers and stick with the camaraderie and reveling in Sheldon's work and discussion about these great basses.

Let me know how those work for ya. I tend to like the slightly larger set because I occasionally have to tune a half or fulll step down.
Cool! Let us know what you think. I play Circle Ks exclusively now. I use balanced sets on my parallel fret four string basses, and I love them on those too.

Very nice. What kind of preamp did it get?
Also on the strings question, I found this post by Blues Cat earlier to be helpful. I'm pretty new to the fanned frets, but if you want to be sure the strings you get fit with no guessing, gamble, or hassle, then buy a set made for fanned frets. I know there's a lot of info on string options out there, there's a whole discussion thread on the Dingwall forum site dedicated to just that. So, with research, you might find something else that will work. (I personally really like the Payson SS's. The gauges match what I've been playing for years and they just feel more comfortable under my fingers)
