i would keep my only Dingwall (ABZ 5 passive) over anything else I have. (Sire Marcus Miller V7-5; Warwick Corvette-5; EBMM Stingray 5HH: MIM jazz 5; Ibanez SR405

I’m missing my Dingwalls terribly with them being on the east coast while I galavant around LA, but this Ibanez BTB7 is a fun distraction. I’ve always wanted to go >6 strings. I’m definitely stringing my ABZ6 to F# when I get back to NY.

Have you played through the Helix/Fractal units? I admit, you'll likely need to play through them a few times to really know which one you prefer.

Honestly too, if you're only using it for bass, look at the Helix LT over the full Helix Floor. The scribble strips are nice but the extra I/O is kinda overkill IMO. Or, look at the Stomp for an even cheaper entry-level unit if you want to dip your toe and not commit $1240...

Searching YouTube for videos on what to do when it loses it’s mind and there’s nothing, or the expression pedal quits working.

And I’ve got two patches built that I like. But hey, it’s kind of fun. There’s tons of amps and cabs, pre amps, eq, comps, and fx. You really need to be using the editor software for a visual and the ease to drop down menus and onscreen adjustments. If I have time to kill, it’s quite the rabbit hole....

Second three bills bought a Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra.
Five minutes and I’m grinning ear to ear. I figured out the Darkglass modeling suite in another ten minutes and ran through the cab sims. Picked the Nolly. Even better.

I run a Ovnilab smoothie comp, the pitchfork octaver, the AOU into my Zoom B3 for another three slots of spices. And I’m good. Live, it would probably be just the comp and AOU (its a nice di too)

The Zoom B3 is still my go to for practice, and it just is so much easier to work with. I line up the subtle stuff like chorus, reverb and envelope, and it’s just like three pedals. Plus the looper is easy and plenty fine. Add the drum machine, and usb hookup to the Mac, and it’s a great tool.

Cool as it is, the big, does it all Line 6 is just a bit complicated. I’m overwhelmed with adjustment s and choices. And it could really use a drum machine.

I could see the Line 6 getting thrown back in the TB endless river of used effects. I’ll let it collect dust for a few more months and see how I feel. I know it’s a few years back in the product lineup, so the newer Line6 may have big improvements.

The Darkglass feels like a keeper. Just the clean, 6 band graphic eq is great. The cab sims are cool. The dirt and drives are outrageous. It’s so much better than the B3k I sold after a few months.

Every time I try a multi, I go back to simple. Just like I’m loving the Super P with its two controls.

Yeah, nothing can dislodge my AOU from my board either. Incredible pedal. Can only imagine how much it roars with that Super P!

Being from Albuquerque I'll never have a chance to try a Helix or an AX8 out, just like I never had a chance to try a Dingwall out. And really, if I could sit down with a Helix or AX8 for 15 - 20 minutes, is that really enough time to judge?

To be honest I really like the scribble strips. The Stomp has no amp modeling. The Helix LT pretty much forces you to do your programing on your computer, the Floor has a more usable display for tweaking on stage. At least that's how I see things. I looked hard at the AX8 but you pretty much have to buy it from Fractal if you want a new one, and that's only $140 less than the Helix Floor. :whistle:

I hear you - have similar issues with gear in Australia all the time. And you're spot on - it takes months to really wrap your head around how each system works and how to get the sound you want.

The Stomp has amp modelling - I think you're mixing it up with the HX Effects: Line 6 | Multi-Effects

I can totally understand about the scribble strips though - I really liked that with the HX Effects I had (I upgraded..sidegraded? to a Stomp)

I stand corrected on the Stomp. It's just not as sophisticated as I would like. After years with the Boss GT-6B even that wasn't as versatile as I would've liked. Not to put down Boss, but it's biased to their stuff. I see the Helix Floor as the "let's take that idea all the way" follow up. I am lucky to be in a position where I have a good job, socking away 20% for my 401k and still be able to stock up on good equipment in anticipation of my retirement in a couple of years. But the Fractal AXE-FXIII is just too much for me, so I see the Helix Floor as the sweet spot. I'll tell ya, I can't wait to be a professional musician again, after having been that in the 80's and 90's. Me playing my Z3 through a Helix Floor will put me (equipment wise) way ahead of all the bass players around here.

Yeah... How do ya like me now! :roflmao:

I’m more of a bass hoarder, in that I’ve only sold one bass to raise money to move from East Coast to the West Coast of Canada.

That said, I think the only one of my current collection would be my KSD Burner Deluxe 6. And that would ONLY happen if I manage to buy an actual Ken Smith 6.

I honestly don't know. That's a pretty good question. Obviously the shells are different since PA's have wood shells that match the top/back wood, and since they do the dual-density thing differently on the PA's than the Z's, I would think the pickups would be wound differently as well. But that's certainly a better question for @Sheldon D.
