NDD's are the best.What's on the truck?
Picked up a V1 Combustion 5-string from the Dingwall page on Facebook. Arrived a few minutes after I realized it was out for delivery!
Not new but new to me this week. Picked up a Sklar. It is quite a pretty bass for all that wouldn’t be in my first couple of colour choices if picking a new one (which I almost did)
Good snag! Baltic Amber is my favorite pick guard material. Goes great with a natural finish, for sure. Enjoy your new bass thoroughly!
Put on some fresh Dingwall nickels on my bass today. They are definitely a step in the right direction, tone wise.
Much better core and a lot more prominent mids, along with more (to me) pleasing harmonics. Might still get some FDV pickups, however, as I feel the FD3 pickups may be a bit too neutral for my taste.

Speaking of pickups, does anybody need a P-Tone for a 5-string?

It is the newer rounded shell design, about 5.264" or 134.1 mm long, and 1.275" or 32.3 mm wide.
It was installed briefly in a 3x. Comes with mounting hardware (screws and rubber spacer sleeves.)

I did the same thing (bought a used Sklar in a different color to save money). So what would be your first choice color? This is mine:
I played an ESP LTD B-1005 back to back with my older Afterburner (with the old style rectangular pickups). The only things I liked better about the LTD were the price and the sound of it. The LTD was equipped with Big Splits, so I put them in my Dingwall. IMHO, the sound improved.
The FD3:s are a bit too neutral sounding for my taste. I would like a bit more color to the sound. It'll be either FDVs or Nordstrand Big Rigs.
I have a bubinga B-1005 34".
I can't sell it because ignoring the B-string, is the best sounding bass I own, it has so much snarl and depth to it, but it still retains an openness too.
The Dingwall sounds like a Dingwall, open, middy, punchy, sounds a lot like an EMG P5 equipped 35" bass, but looses some of that grit vs. Other pups.
I guess I can't say the LTD sounds better overall, but as a traditional sounding bass it does.
I must be lucky - like I said the stock Dingwalls I've got fulfill all my desires. I absolutely adore how they sound and wouldn't change ANYTHING about them. That's definitely just me though - no problem with others feeling differently.
Maybe some of us are not happy to have their canadian basses sound less powerful than their chinese counterparts ?

I must have missed seeing that memo.
Definitely right. I've noodled around with the ESP and the Ibanez FF basses, and I didn't care for either of them. The Ibanez looked nice, and seemed to be built decently, but I didn't like the pickups and the fan was weak. The ESP had Nordstrands in it, but it didn't sound like the other basses I've had that had Big Singles in them, and I'm not a fan of the aesthetics. I know there's plenty of guys rocking both of those basses and just killing' it, but they're not my jam.
I also spent some time in the Spector club. I've owned US and Euro Spectors, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why anyone would hate on the Tonepump? I think it gives every bit of the "Spector growl" we love, without having to find creative ways to tame that crazy mid bump the HAZ has built in. At least the NS-2 I had had some massive upper mid bump that was almost overpowering. Some Spector guys HATE the TP. Why? I suspect it's because it's not the HAZ.

Well, that isn't something that I've ever heard anyone complain about. I had a v1 Combustion and a passive ABZ 5 and that ABZ was every bit as powerful sounding as the active Combustion. Heck, my D-Bird Standard is just about as loud as my NG-3.
I'd be interested in hearing what's going on with your bass because I'm not sure any of us has ever heard that before. I'll be able to confirm or deny that in about 3 months. Our man, @xnewyorka, can do it right now...LOL!
The ESP is equipped with Big Splits.
I did put Big Singles in my older, two-pickup Combustion (pre-rounded shells). It sounds pretty great, but not like a typical Combustion.
That's why I ordered a 3 pickup Combustion. Should be here in about 6 months (I've already waited about 7).
