I've posted a slightly more in depth review of the Circle K string set I've put on my ABZ in the Circle K Strings megathread in the Strings sub-forum, but I'll say it again here:

These strings are the s***. Awesome tone, great feel, super price, and perfect fit. Until Dingwall comes out with their Nickel set, or until I feel the need to put on a set of Payson Flats, I'll be using CK's!

So I got a Dingwall yesterday. Combustion to be exact. Anyway, did you guys first experience some wrist issues when you got it? Like soreness and such? I've heard people say the opposite happened and soreness went away. I'm wondering if this is something that only I'm experiencing and it will get better with more play.

I want to love the Dingwall too. The weight, the look, the tone...all awesome! But if I can't get over that soreness...sigh. That sucks. lol

Granted it's only been two days. SO I don't know at this point.

I also picked up my Spector after playing the Dingwall and found myself wanting to hold my fingers in the same positions. This is probably the main issue.

You are working the muscles from a new angle,so that kind of muscle sore is reasonable.
If the joints are sore, you have a technique issue to be adjusted if you want to keep playing.

Mostly a little joint pain. It could be from something else though. I dunno. My technique may need work as well. I'm humble enough to admit that. lol

Another quick question. What online retailers carry Dingwall strings? I've found some that say they do, but then I can't find them on their sites.

I'm trying to avoid ridiculous shipping charges if at all possible.

I think Jive Sound carries that stock strings. Otherwise, TB member Blues Cat collaborates with an anonymous string company on having nickel, steel, and flat wound strings made to fit Dingwalls, but with a higher tension than the stock strings. Your final, definite-fit option is Circle K Strings, which are a nickel/steel hybrid and do just about any size you could think of. Make sure, if you get CK's, that you get 36-37" scale Traditional tension.

As for pain, I experienced none. Your technique may need some work. I find my ABZ5 to be more comfortable to play in the low frets than any 35" 5 string I ever tried. The fan is designed to be more ergonomic.

I switched to stand up technique in the 1st position: 1=1, 2=2, 4=3, especially on the B string.

It is very important to stretch your wrists before you play to avoid carpel tunnel syndrome.

Blues Cat's strings are higher tension than stock strings. if you are having pain, get your issues sorted before making the jump to them. they do sound good and play nicely, just be prepared for needing a bit more grip. i'm currently running his flats with all strings down a whole step. it works for me.

Finallly I own a Dingwall and LOVE IT!.. The neck is to die for, I am 4 string player so I was not sure about jumping to a 5. wow I did not feel too much difference this time, my hand fit the neck perfectly. The only thinh I would like to do is change the preamp, currently it has a bartolini, I am thinking to replace it with a Pope Flexcore..does anybody has experience with this preamp?...now a picture of this baby and me.

That looks like the NAMM bass that's been hanging around the classifieds here. To me, Sheldon's instruments are in a league of their own. It's SO ironic that a guitar player dreamed up and made these unique and awesome basses. He's by FAR the coolest guitar player I know. ;) Enjoy playing that killer bass!

There are some players here with experience with the Flexcore. I believe Munjibunga installed one in a Sadowsky, for one...

i have carpal tunnel syndrome in both my wrists and i own two DW`s. these basses are actually easier to play in my condition than standard fretboards. could be a technique thing as previously stated.

Now THAT is dedication! :cool: I have a sneaking suspicion that you will be totally diggin' it. Have you decided on the fretboard and color scheme?

I have the precision pickup at the neck on my Super J four. It is excellent. I am (semi-)patiently waiting for Sheldon and crew to build a five-string version of it. November is going to be an awesome 'new bass month' for me this year...

I'm thinkin black or natural w/ the morado fingerboard. I wish they made more 4's/variations of 4's for the 4 string guys. I might've gotten an ABZ or combustion but I couldn't find one that was a combo of 4 string/non maple FB.

What's in November?
