Hello Dingwallies! I've just rejoined TalkBass after a 20 year hiatus to try and locate my custom Dingwall AfterBurner II 5-string (serial number 3542) that I sold to BassNW back in May of 2009, or so, judging from the datestamp on the photos.

At the time, Evan at BassNW was working with Dingwall to bring in several new ones on a regular basis. I found out that they had some being built, and I never liked the flashy paintjobs, and had only seen the AfterBurner 4-strings previously. I asked if they could do an AB-II 5-string, with just an oil-rubbed finish - no paint - and they were happy to oblige.

I was OVER THE MOON happy with that instrument and played it for years. But... I fell on some hard times, money was short, and I had to pay the bills. So I consigned the instrument to BassNW, and it sold within a week.

I've regretted that decision to this very day, even more than selling my 4001 Ricky.

Now, I am at a stage in my life where I am playing again (a bit) and have some money saved (a bit) and would love to find the current owner of this bass and offer them a good price for it.

Evan is still around on Facebook and in my experience is a pretty approachable guy. He might have some of his old records that could help in your search.

Also, Chad at The Bass Shop in West Seattle who used to be Evans partner at BassNW took on some of Evans inventory when BassNW closed its doors. It's possible he took some of the old records/paperwork as well. Could be worth a call or a trip over to see him. He's also a very approachable guy.

Oh yeah. Evan and I go way back, to the Eastside heavy metal scene in the 1980's. And of course I knew Chad through his partnership with Evan. Years ago I chatted loosely with Evan about the idea of finding a bass I had sold, and he said there were privacy issues he was bound by, and couldn't help.

It may be long enough ago now, but at the same time... remembering who bought a specific bass over a decade ago is probably not high on his list of priorities. (He's on a cruise in the Bahamas!)

I will go back and chat with Chad or Evan, if all else fails, of course. But I figured I'd check here first. Thanks for the idea!!

That looks a lot like a couple that were for sale on Talkbass/Reverb but modified with Nordstand pickups.

I totally get they can't give you the name / contact info of who bought it, but, perhaps they can reach out to them for you and see if the buyer would be open to talking with you?

Either way, good luck on your hunt. Give BassNW's reach, I imagine that bass could have landed just about anywhere in the world. I hope you get it back, and hope that it is everything you remember it to be :)

That one is only 12 numbers off of mine, which looks like the same configuration. Mahogany body with bubinga neck and top. It's a great bass. I know why you'd want it back!

I know that one well. Unfortunatly this one is left both impossible to setup reasonably, and actually possible to measure. Looks like the stuff happened during producvtion because some of it got cut into the fretboard wood. Trying to work with Dingwall to get it sorted, but their initial response was exactly yours. I suspect they see quite a few false alarms of this kind.

It's a small Dingwall world, my friend! If I can't find mine, maybe I'll be able to wrench yours from your cold dead fingers! Nah... seriously I'd probably get one of the Combustion series 5-strings. I don't need a $5k bass. :-)

It was a partial wedding present and it didn't cost nearly $5K, but it is what I considered expensive at the time. I wouldn't let my wife pay for the whole thing.

Hello all - another happy NG2-5 owner here. I've had mine for over a year now and it's truly the best bass I've ever owned. Actually, I'm currently trying to put together an order for my first domestic Dingwall. Don't want to hijack the thread here, but I started this thread about it and would love some opinions related to the Super series. Thanks!

This thread is awesome, BTW. Gotta love 12 years of gorgeous bass pictures.
