Even the base of the fingerboard is NG/Combustion shaped. I guess at the very least, he knew a good thing when he saw it.

Even the base of the fingerboard is NG/Combustion shaped. I guess at the very least, he knew a good thing when he saw it.
Looks great.
Aviator Guitars are also an option for those wanting more customizability than Dingwalls with a similar vibe and 37-34'' scale (unless you prefer something else). I own a guitar from them.

Alrighty, so I'm kind of struggling with some things and am hoping some of you folks can help me out.
1) Does anyone have any idea what the thickest gauge B string you can use on a 5-String NG2/NG3 model without having to file the nut would happen to be?
2) I'm having a hell of a time locating strings that will work for what I'm going for at the moment. I'm currently part of a project where I am utilizing a GCGCF tuning on my 5-string NG2. Right now with the default strings that came on my NG2 (which I believe are the stock Dingwall strings with a .130 low B), I'm getting by (I don't mind somewhat loose tension), but I would prefer just a bit more tension on the low G and C strings.
So overall, does anyone know of any manufacturers that sell pre-made sets that work with the NG2 model's scale length that are a bit thicker than what Dingwall sells themselves? I've heard people throw the Kalium name out there a few times, and I have looked into them and they seem like the way to go, but I've also heard some horror stories of people not receiving their orders or just having a nightmare dealing with their customer service. If anyone here has any experience with them, definitely let me know how your experience with them was.

You should look at Payson strings. I'd guess that @Blues Cat can get you sorted out or pointed in the right direction. Can't give you any personal insights, the closest I've come to that ACGCF, and standard strings work fine for me. I wouldn't alter a nut unless I was going to leave a bass in that tuning permanently, so I don't blame you there...
I used Kalium strings (.136 on the low end) when I tuned ADGCF. I had no problem ordering or receiving.
I've ordered two sets of strings from Kalium. First was a 4-string BEAD set that arrived without issue and were truly some of the finest sounding strings I've ever played. The second was a 4-string EADG set that never arrived and after repeated emails to Kalium that were never responded to I just gave up. Take that for what it's worth. I won't order from them ever again after my experience and the reports from others, as well as the difficulties with the owner's line of basses as well. Other folks are repeat customers that have zero issues. It's not worth the risk for me, but then again I'm playing exclusively in standard tuning on 4-string basses these days, so I have a lot more options than someone like you who needs a far more specific set of strings.
@SLaPiNFuNK is another string guru that can hook you up with a set tailor made for your NG-2.
I recommend Payson as well.
Yeah, Jason(@SLaPiNFuNK) can put together a set of strings that'll do exactly what you want or, again, point you in the right direction...
UPDATED: Confirmed with Dingwall that the serial number is 3542, not 5542, as I originally posted.

Just checking in to provide y'all with an update on looking for my Dingwall, serial number 3542.
Another friendly person on this list mentioned they had one within 10 numbers of mine... but not mine.
And I went in and talked with Chad Beeler (who used to own BassNW with Evan, and is the current owner of The Bass Shop in West Seattle). He said they don't have records going back that far, and he'd do the same thing I have done: post to TalkBass and Reddit, and poke around the usual Dingwall hangouts.
But... no idea where my bass might be.
So while I was at The Bass Shop, I pulled down the one Dingwall they had in stock (a brand new D-Roc in aqua blue metalflake [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ) and was just blown away with it.
Honestly, if it had been a 5-string, I'd have taken it home right then and there. What a groovy machine! And what a screaming deal of a price!! It felt REALLY good to have those fanned frets under my fingers again... and makes me want my old Dingwall back, even more.

Maybe it is time to look at the available Canadian Dingwall 5s on the market... I do understand the desire to have your old one back, but I think you'll be surprised how well the others will do. At one point I had three AB2s and was trying to sell one. There was one of them that just had a special something about it. When I tried to sell one (not that one), the person I was dealing with only wanted the "special one". After A/Bing my ABs (haha), I swapped out strings (as I felt like they were starting to go) and with new strings it didn't have as much of that same magic. I found out that with a new set of strings they were all extremely close. Ultimately I sold two of them and kept one with a slightly different spec (walnut neck vs. bubinga on the others) because I had buyers on them. Then I switched to Payson True Flats and the magic is back. All that to say there is one just as good (or maybe better) as your original out there waiting for you.
Thanks for the insights. And I know finding it is a long shot... but it’s also the challenge of the hunt, wanting to know it’s continuing story, and also a bit of stalling, if I’m completely honest.
The wife and I are going to the UK for vacation in March, and spending that money just before we go on holiday is ... not advised, shall we say.
But while I am gone, I will also be getting my bonus check for 2019... so will have a little extra “fun money” for when I get back. (Honestly, I’m spoiled by my life. I have it really good, and I appreciate it immensely.)

Thus the struggle of being a bass player who dabbles in modern metal! Most of the bands I listen to are in drop A or lower, and I play 4 string Dingwalls
BEAD-Bird and AEAD-Bird, both with nuts filled specifically for the string gauges I play.
IMO, if you're going to be playing in low tunings, it plays off to have a tailor made nut and thought out string gauges.
I dream of a Dingwall with a Warwick just-a-nut style nut that I can have multiple top pieces for so when I change strings I can pop on a nut for different tunings easily.
As much as I'd like a 3rd Aquamarine D-Bird, I'll let this one go...good price from Chicago Music Exchange!

I saw when they posted that. If I wasn't holding out for one of those new D-Roc 5-strings I would probably snatch that thing up. It's really hard to say no to that price.
hey guys! any chance someone knows/could measure resistance of their FD3-n?
my NG2 just started sounding like crap with darkglass both on and off. I tried connecting pickups directly to a jack to see if it's the volume pot/switch issue but it sounds exactly the same: way quieter than my other basses and muddy, especially lows. I measured resistance and it gave me 4.8-4.9 on 20k setting. I was thinking it was the darkglass but now after all the tests I really doubt it. I'm almost ready to take the preamp out and put it into one of my basses to figure if it's faulty or not.
