Lemme start by saying that I really LOVE Doug Castro & Darkglass. Having said that, the Harmonic Booster isn't going to cause a chorus of angels to magically appear when you plug it in. It's a totally useful tool if you play mainly passive basses or you need something to bring up a passive bass to the same output level as an active bass. If your basses are active, you're not going to get a ton of benefits from the HB.

It adds a nice "sheen" to my sound, but it's not adding anything that I couldn't live without. I'm mainly keeping it on my board as a place holder and because I don't have any other DG pedals, LOL! I'd say pass unless you can find one at a good price.

I'm a fan. It's always on in my short pedal chain. The EQ is useful, and I like the "character" I can get with it. Back when I had a B7K I always thought it was fun running it without gain because I liked the tone shaping that it brought to the table - I think the Harmonic Booster gives me that vibe.

This arrived Friday!

I really wanted a Dbird. It’s way cooler than I expected. I find it super comfortable. Both standing and sitting. Weight is right around 8 on my bass scale.

I pulled a set of DR Pure Blue VW’s .040 out of my soaking tube. They had been on the AB-1 four string, and they fit exactly. Which means I can swap the Payson flats on here as well!

The bridge is easy to work with, truss rod is smooth, and the neck is everything I expect from Dingwall. A little chunkier than the AB, but in a really nice way. Balance is perfect.

I experimented with an easily adjustable strap and found I settled at exactly the same length as my Italia 4”. Which is cool, because I just flip it over and the blue suede looks great on top. Smooth leather back. The strap lock system is very cool.

Lots of great sounds in there with the three pups and tone circuit. It’s got me reaching for a pick, so that’ll need work. It’s been years.
Cool slap sounds too, but weird having just 21 frets. The high c is easy to reach, but that’s it for upper frets. But it’s not that kinda vibe anyway.

I’m really stoked on this one. It’s a sexy beast. Love the paint job!

Glad you're digging it, my friend! I'll tell anyone that's willing to listen, those D-Birds, and, by extension, the D-Rocs as well, sound like a million bucks! But those ergo's just aren't for me.

My finger's are crossed that my other two ABZs aren't gonna take too much longer, especially now that NAMM is over. I'm actually missing having a 4-string...

I currently have a two band Glockenlag which I am switching out for the Darkglass (I like the Glock, but it's a little too sterile for my tastes). Does you Darkglass enabled Dingwall have the passive treble/tone control as the Glock enabled ones have? I haven't done the math to look at filter characteristics yet, but I would imagine the treble rolloff with the high mids might be quite a different thing than the rolloff with the treble. I suppose if it is, I could add another stacked pot for a passive tone control. Thanks!

To save me some tedious research, RE my SJ5XXX: I have 3 Ptone PUPs, 2 n (neck) and 1 b (bridge). I assume they would go nbn if I were to put in all 3. But to just put one in the middle position, would it be the b, and then I'd also have to put in the n ptone in the bridge? I currently have an FDV marked m (middle) in the middle position, but want to go Ptone instead

Okay, so as I was going through the wiring (the Glock website leaves much to be desired on wiring diagrams), the Glock also typically doesn't have one listed, and I noticed the concentric stacked pot that acted as a passive tone control along side treble control, so I assumed that was thrown in by Sheldon. As I look closer, it indeed may be intrinsic to the Glock. Awesome, less work for me! Though I may have to experiment with a concentric pot dual passive treble rolloff...

The 3 band glock has the passive control on the treble like the 2 band BUT If you go with the stacked 3 band to fit in a 2 pot location you loose the passive control. I really like the passive control and with the DG has one.

Unless it has changed recently you have to wire the Darkglass preamp yourself. I'm pretty sure you could wire a stereo pot so it acts as a passive tone control when the preamp is bypassed similarly to the Glock - I even made a diagram a few years ago but can't find it anymore. It may be more trouble than it's worth but it's doable.

Very interesting - much closer to the Dingwall design than I've ever seen. 37-34", good looking design, darkglass tone capsule, double pickups in "NG-2-position".
