Id be shocked if the FDVs didn’t suite. Hehe.
They are amazing and honestly I’ve always found that the NG models always seems hotter then an FD3 loaded build.

Some of that could have been a contrast in woods used but comparing an NG beside a very high end Z3 I could the NG to have more output. With that the Canadian build had more articulation and depth. Balls went to the NG where finesse went to the Z

yeah I can see that, unfortunately I don't live near any higher end music stores so they only way I'm trying them is with the added risk of getting burned on them after I installed them. But I mean I just got burned on my finish already so I'm used to it. Bought my Combustion without having the ability to try it, I'm gonna go on a mini tangent here but this was the best customer service I have ever experienced and of course it was Sheldon himself who made this possible.

I ordered my Combustion in 2015, a matte black square pickup model with a rosewood board. Lead time was about 6 months, well maybe about 3 months into the wait I get it into my head that I would like a maple board better but of course I was told nothing could be done as I had waited too long. :/ okay well it's still going to be an awesome bass and I can always order a replacement neck if I really want to. Maybe about 2 months or so to go I get an email from Sheldon saying that a store who had an order for my spec but with a maple board was going out of business and could he switch the order with mine? It still blows my mind that he remembered what I wanted among a bunch of orders and made it happen luck on my side or not.

what happened to the finish? It looked fantastic in the photos?

He did great work no doubt, it was more of a communication error between him and I. It's not that it doesn't look great, its that the burst isn't exactly consistent with most burst finishes on the market or to other Dingwalls. It's me being super nitpicky but I can't really look past it too easily so I am going to get the body redone, there is also a tiny problem with the color barely poking above the pickguard on the right side. Really not huge deals but something that is bugging me regardless so having it redone will put my mind at ease regarding this bass. Otherwise I'm extremely happy with how it plays and sounds which is really the more important part anyway because aesthetics can fairly easily be changed.

Have just heard that my custom aB2 will be ready any day (in final inspection).

It's alright I spose :)

I've only had a chance to play through headphones as my amp is at my jam space which had been closed until this week, my band wont be practicing for a while still.
It sounds great though, the different pickups/wiring means that every position on the selector is now very usable vs my older J where the bridge solo is kinda useless.
Neck feel is a little different to the older Super J I suspect that is a combination of the Wenge and changes in production, it seems a little less wide and flat on the back which I'm enjoying. Could all be in my mind though.

All that said, I am waiting to hear from my dealer/Dingwall on a couple of minor issues, nothing that affects the quality of the instrument thankfully, just some miscommunication somewhere along the line and missing straplok parts.

What did you gain by omitting the bridge solo selection? Both neck in series and parallel? I never use bridge solo either.

I have an irrational dislike of anything signature for my own gear which is ironic considering I use a Combustion modified to NG spec but I definitely see the appeal. That being said I think Dingwall does a much better job with their signatures than say Ernie Ball (I hope Sterling doesn't catch wind of this)

Dingwall threads the line of mostly practical, appealing to the players specs and throwing some spice into the mix with a full package you couldn't really find elsewhere. Ernie Ball's signature stuff has always bugged me bc its either for the traditionalist (Joe Dart, Cliff Williams) or for the super prog guys who want a tight string spacing 6 string Bongo (John Myung)
