I was put off by the on-board distortion circuit ( rather use the pedals on by board ), so I ordered a standard 5 string D-roc instead.
I'm the same way, I'd rather be able to have full control over my signal chain. I usually have at least a compressor and a high pass filter, maybe even an additional EQ added before any dirt gets added to my sound. My setups are either just a regular line 6 helix, or I have a pedal board with a Cali76TX and a helix stomp. If I could get the hellboy signature without the drive circuit but with the art, that would be pretty cool.
So here’s the family of traditional Super Js. I’ve got a more modern one coming, but these 400 apart capture a lot of the range of the basses.

Been a few months since I last popped my head on these forums. I still won't be visiting a whole lot, but, I thought I'd poke in to see how everyone is doing.
A bit of an update on Omega-Z (I call it that because, in theory, it's my "final" Dingwall. Maybe).
I have all of the specs basically dialed in with Billy and the fine folks over at Dingwall! I even have my top reserved now, which was a small adventure on its own. There's one final detail I'm waiting to hear back on, but, hopefully will in the next week or so.
All that said, Billy believes that my ETA is "around early May". So, hopefully with shipping etc., that means I have it by mid- to late-may!
So, here's the details as they stand so far:
Z-series, 5 string, 2 pickups (the jazz spacing ones, not the one with two at the bridge)
Standard swamp ash, dual-density body (I requested "as light as possible", but, not overly concerned with this)
No contrast layer, but a Buckeye Burl top, bleached, and finished pretty much identical to "Bloodmoon Burst". I also asked about having the back match the front in terms of color.
FD3 pickups, with an added P-tone included for me to play around with.
Glockenklang Preamp **, S/P toggles
Wenge neck, Wenge fingerboard
Matching Headstock w/ Hipshot drop tuner
Speed-O bar inlays, wood, color matching the top.
Blue Luminlay side dots
Black Hardware
Fairly straight forward build, overall. I'm waiting to hear from their painter that they can/will match the back to the front (not in wood, just in color). Fingers crossed there... they did for my AB1 on request, so I'm hoping they still will here.
The Glockenklang is merely a placeholder, though. Within a few weeks of owning it, that will get ripped out.
You see, Omega-Z is going to be something a bit special.
Each pickup is going to feed a filter preamp.
So EACH pickup will have:

Pickup selection will be the same rotary knob you all know and love. It'll be much more Wal- or Alembic-like than anything else normally offered by Dingwall. I'm still not 100% certain on how I'm going to handle the knobs, as I "need" 6 knobs (Volume, Rotary, Lo-Filter stack x2, Hi-Filter Stack x2). I'll sort that out pretty easily, though, I hope.

After a good long many seconds of pondering and consideration, I think that Sheldon should introduce a 32-35" scale Dingwall with a closer-to-trademark Dingwall body shape.
I love the shape at the 'rear end' of the long-scales because they balance very nicely when I have 'em propped up around the house, so it could be a Z-ish, AB-ish or Voodoo-ish vibe but I think it would also give the more forward style Dingwall trademark aesthetics along with the tone-cues of the 'super' series instruments.
Feel free to discuss, or not.

How about a 32.5” - 37” 7-string? As a 7-string player I would jump on it. If that’s been done, I apologize as I have not seen it.

I appreciate the more traditional look of the Super series, because for some gigs the look of the instrument sometimes does matter.
However, I’d totally rock a medium scale AB/NG/Z series bass.

I think there's guys who aren't Jazz/Precision traditionalists that would love what the long-scales offer in a bunch of design ways, but with the shorter scale.
Stuff like:
-Compound radius fretboard
-Thin Compound asymmetric neck carve (Z-thickness)
-2 or 3 pickup options layout options
-Dingwall compact 2+3 headstock (either AB style or angled Z style is fine)
And a body that aligns with the modern Dingwall body types.
