Not sure what else there is to know beyond what's in the listing :). Pretty solid Super... though the list of upgrades is kinda... funny. If you want to skip the line and get a Super now, that seems good, just a touch high on pricing for a 2nd hand, IMO.

Any other thoughts/opinions on a 3 pickup super J vs super PJ?

Without being able to play and hear both in person it'll be a tough call. I'm a jazz guy at heart but also do love a good P pickup also. PJs I've had in the past though I did battle balance when playing in parallel so I'd be curious if they blend well?

I've not had the pleasure of playing a Super P/J (mine just has the P), but I remember Sheldon's amazement with how great the pickups play together. :bassist: I won't be experiencing 3X until my AB arrives in the fall. I will probably be using it as a P/J, soloing the middle pickup (killer P tones) or playing the neck/bridge in parallel when I wanna get jazzy. :cool:

Preference and reference man.

ultimately, if I get into any kind of a band resembling ideal for me a J bass won’t cut it. Too scooped. A P probably could but ultimately the long scale would win out for metal.

if I wind up in a rock or country gig I think I’d be able to make a J or P work just dandy.

depends on the mix your trying to fit in. Then the cabs your pushing through.
My 410 is completely different then my 215 etc.

I guess my question to you is what do you want and what application are you putting it to. I haven’t played a dingwall that can’t cut a mix.

Good point - I didn't want to go on a lot. Current band is 90s-current alt rock-country and the Z3 is awesome but can get a little modern at times. But really I care more about recording/home playing and also play classic rock, blues etc hence getting another option aside from the Z. The neck shape is big but no matter what I need a thin neck and am guessing I'll need to have it locally shaved to where it's similar to the Z (which is a shame they can't do custom necks for the price).
Anyway - that's where I'm at.

I don’t recall. Have you had a chance to play an AB yet?

The reason I ask is that when comparing specs on the website the AB and supers have the same neck profile/ shape and depth and so with that I figured if you were able to bond with an AB a super shouldn’t be more of a stretch really.
With that a J can slay. For some added presence throw it in series and bamm. But if you want that wool from a P I’d suggest to get a bass with an actual FDP.

There is a definite difference between the P tone and the FDP. If you want to cop a Jazz get a PJ or JP and it’ll do a solid job but I think if your chasing the P there’s no substitution for the split coil.

New or used? Didn't think their pricing was that close... though with recent price increases, maybe so.
