Dingwall Owners Club

I may actually buy that identical bass as a holdover until my ab1 6 arrives.

The only think slowing me is that i want a f# mod and i am unsure if a f# 6 would be harder to resale? Maybe easier because unique?

Are the strings and the nut the only changes to do f#?

Someone could always change it back since I believe it is just strings and a nut. I think a lot of people would be curious to try it.

Folks, I'm in a wonderful position where I have to choose between an ABZ/II and a Z (my preferences). I currently have a beautiful SJ5 3x w/FD3s, which I love, but I want to round out my Dingwall stable with a 37" B. I do a fair amount of home recording and gig about 6 times a year - lot's of different musical styles. Have a couple of Warwicks (Corvette, Starbass) and I love that tone, and can get similar, fantastic tones from the SJ5. So, for those with an ABZ/ABII AND and Z - which do you pick up more, and why? I know the neck profile is one consideration, but are there significant tone differences? Perhaps more pertinent in the ABII/Z context unless the ABZ/Z tone differences are significant? It's a tough decision without being able to get my hands on these back to back. Appreciate your feedback as I look to finalize my build sheet in the coming days!

I have a Super J, a couple ABs, and a Sklar. I tend to play the ABs. I'm one of those who prefer the AB neck. Oddly, even though the Combustion neck should be very close, it felt chunky to me. AB neck all the way.

I can manage a custom over the time I’d be waiting, and probably squeeze in the F# NG3 that I want to do in the same time period…but two customs at once? Nah.

Now, IF I do this…once the first is taken care of, I’ll happily do the other. Maybe there’ll be a D-Roc 6 by then. :woot:

I was talking about acquisition over time, not all at once. It's nearly impossible to have just one.

Man, the saga of my lost ABZ 3x 4 string is continuing with no positive changes.
There is an investigation that is on business day 10 and these typically last 1-8 business days. UPS International is pushing InterParcel to declare the package lost (the courier that picked the bass up from Bass Direct and whom is supposed to get it through customs in the UK to UPS International who then gets it to me in Florida).
I have been holding out hope despite no signs of life/any changes from InterParcel and UPS International but at this point, I am ready to just be cut loose from the situation.
I have more to say about the whole situation but I am going to wait until everything is resolved.

That stinks.

Yeah, waiting it out is tough but probably the best thing to do.

That’s got to be ridiculously stressful, infuriating, depressing…

Thanks, it’s a bummer but at least I have a ton to be grateful for in my life as a whole.

If the bass makes it and all is okay with it; then this will be a minor glitch and if it doesn’t make it, I will eventually find the one for me.

But yeah, not fun now. Mark from Bass Direct is going to go ahead and refund me next week if we are still in limbo. He (and I) do believe it will show up, at some point but who knows when.

I’m a bit stalled. As I try to work out possible builds, I realize I don’t know much about the Glockenklang, how its sounds vary as the various bands are boosted or cut, etc. Anyone know a good demo video that goes through that in depth?

I went through this with a Spector from with in country. Canada post lost it in a warehouse fro 3 weeks on top of really slow shipping. It did turn up and all was right in the end but man I feel your pain.

Just picked this up from Mo. Went with Big Splits under the FD covers. Definitely an improvement. I mostly play in passive so it’s not a huge deal, but the Glockenklang preamp is very bright with the Big Splits. I may end up replacing the preamp. Pickup cavities were also shielded.

@TheEmptyCell i didn’t even want to play it because of the shape, didn’t think it would be comfy, but John said “you’ll love the weight and balance”, and he was right. I played a ton of basses when I went to see him, and that’s the one I ended up buying. And I was just there to preorder so thing else lol

@TTA yes it’s vinyl

That's sweet, dude. I have a big split at the bridge in my SJ/P-4. Plays very nicely with the NP-4a-DW (Dingwall version).
