Dingwall Owners Club

While we're talking Supers, here's a pretty cool shot of my formerly fretless Super J, having swapped necks with my fretted Super P. Featuring Nordstrand Big Blades 6 (5s would have been too narrow).

The bit I'm playing was overdubbed on the album. It was either tapping or a looper live.

It SHOULD have occurred to me that the nut width on the Super J was slimmer than the Super P, but it never did. The dimensions on the site indicate that that’s the only real difference, yes? In which case, I am left wondering if they’d mate up a Super J neck on a Super P ordered from the shop. I would imagine so, there doesn’t seem to be any drastic difference other than nut width, after all.

It’s probably a good thing that a Super P is a couple years away from coming up on my list.

The Dingwall shop has made a custom Super P with a Super J neck. I saw one in the classifieds here a year or two ago. There may be more out there in the wild... Both necks are fantastic. The SP neck is just a bit meatier and rounder than the J. Don't ask me to pick a favorite because I love 'em both. ;)

I concur. I believe the SJ and SP necks are (were?) different on 4 strings but identical on 5s.

Having swapped them around a few times mine drop right in each other's body's pocket. Not certain that would be possible with 4s (but I've only had an older SJ4).

I was not clear in my earlier post that I was referring to the four-string necks...

Hi,

I'm new to the club since I got my Combustion 5 just a few days ago.:bassist:

I really like the bass itself, but I wonder is it possible to customize the 3x rotary switch? Has anyone done it yet?
I like the neck solo and the neck+bridge in paralell option, but the other two are not to my taste.

If it can be done, I'd like to modify it this way:
- bridge+middle in paralell
- middle solo
- bridge+neck in paralell
- neck solo

What do you think? Thanks for any input on this.

Cheers

Welcome to the club!

Dingwall’s switches are set up via dedicated circuit boards, and while one MIGHT possibly be modified as you suggest, I have doubts and believe it would be really tricky to do, if it can be. There is another option, though. Mo Mina makes a six-way switch, and while he has a sort of “standard” setup, custom setups can be done. I’m getting the layout of mine sorted out in conversations with Fretnation now, in fact. The “stock” configuration he does almost has what you want, plus a little, apart from the middle solo. Coincidentally, I’m getting mine with middle solo in place of the bridge solo selection.

Have a look, this may be just what you need: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I picked up one of these 6-way switches from Jason @ fretnation a few weeks ago and had my tech install it last weekend. Works like a charm. Mine just added the bridge & middle in parallel and bridge & middle in parallel in series with neck. Cool extra 2 options to your liking.

Quick question for those who have a D-roc 5 string.
I'm expecting my Standard 5 soon ( everything crossed they'll release them in a few weeks ) and even though they come with what I've heard is an excellent gig-bag, I will probably get a hardcase too ( for certain gigs ).
So the question is...... does anyone have suggestions for a hardcase that will fit the D-roc 5's

If you search back through this thread you can find multiple entries on the selector switch options. It comes up very frequently. Even just a few pages back it’s been discussed.

All of this switch talk is making me think about my Super J's switch. I love the neck-solo (P'ish) and neck-bridge parallel (J-ish) settings. The bridge-solo (Jaco'ish) setting is something I'll never use as it's just not my taste. The middle-bridge series (Stingray'ish) setting is the interesting one. I like the sound and it's very convincingly MM sounding, but I find the mids a little overbearing and there's noticeable volume jump when in that setting compared to others on the bass. I would love if that setting were in parallel similar to a Sterling as compared to series like a Stingray. I'm guessing that modification to the existing 4-position switch would not be possible, but if it is possible, has anyone done that particular mod?
