Hey guys, I'm not completely sure about this, but as much as I love the ABZ3X proto I got from Frank, I really think I need to stick to 5 strings. I've put a d tuner on it to help me with a couple songs that need the lower notes, but its still a lot easier to play it on my fiver and I like being able to play up higher on the neck by playing on the b string sometimes. If anybody has an AB1,2,Z or Super J5 and would like to work out some sort of deal, I may be up for it.

My guess of what you're hearing with the RS210 that is pleasing you is a more aggressive mid range and a very tight low end response. The RS210 has a very small internal volume when compared to the majority of 2x10's out there and typically when you put drivers in a small internal volume, those are the effects you would see.

It is a very different vibe from the Monique - Crest - Mesa PH115 (or 15/6). The bigger volume cab PH115 (the 15/6 is out of hand for another week) with a 15 and tweeter has a more breathy an open bass and a more "crystal" top end. The RS210 seems to work better with the ABZ electronics. I don't like the tone knob adjustment point on the ABZ with the 15/6 or PH 115, but the RS210 seems to change how the tone knob adjustments present. The congestion I expected to get from the 210 cab seems to add some beef where I felt it was missing, and remove the harsh articulation I didn't like. The overall balance is better. On the other end of the spectrum, my experience with the articulate Baer ML112 and the agressive Mesa M6 Carbine was way too much when I plugged in the ABZ.

Interestingly, my favored Nash PB63 doesn't sound as lovely as I'd hoped it would with the RS210 (compared to what I'm getting with my 15 cabs). It gets a touch dark, even with the tone knob wide open. It is normally a bell-like brightness that I like (the ABZ seems to articulate more in the upper mids, in honk-territory).

I was hoping the RS210 would replace a cab or two. Now I'm thinking my cab inventory is about to grow, and I'll keep them all. Well, I'll probably sell the Mesa, since it overlaps in tone with my 15/6, and the 15/6 is a composite build that weighs 30lbs less, and it handles more watts.

I'm interested in possibly working out something with my ABZ 5 in Trans Black. I'd be down for going into 4-string land (w the d-tuner). How are the electronic different from an ABZ? Feel free to PM and take this offline at any point.

Hey guys, over the years I've owned 2 different SJ5s but had to sell due to some financial issues... yesterday I stopped in GC and they had a combustion, I played it for a bit and put $200 down to hold it. It played really nice, it was $799 which seemed very fair, what's the consensus on these?

Love mine, best bass I've ever owned. While I constantly drool over all the Dingwall models the reality is I likely will never be able to financially justify spending the kind of money to upgrade.

At a jam session I go to on Fridays I had some really nice compliments on my sound from one of the guitar players who's also a pretty good bass player himself.

That's a pretty good deal you got at GC, welcome back to Dingwall land.

Speaking of Combustions, I just completed my planned modifications to my Combustion.
I stripped all the electronics out, put her on a drill press, drilled out a couple extra holes, then rewired her with Series/Parallel switches for each pickup, I stacked the two volume Pots and put a John East Sweepable Mid Controller where the Bridge Pickup's Volume control was. She sounds phenomenal!

Not that the Combustion needed any changes, but now it's even more versatile! I do need to order some stacked knobs for the volume controls to match the John East though.

Okay! Got everything put together and got the pictures working. Here's a link to the process I followed for anyone that's interested:

Adding the Series/Parallel option made such a huge difference. I cannot help but recommend it. I had my first rehearsal with it post modification and had to switch to a different bass for a couple songs and literally felt sad that I had to put down the Dingwall.

Sheldon, I included the original Combustion wiring diagram that Jeff sent me when I asked a question. If for some reason you don't want that disseminated to the general public or anything, let me know and I'll take it down.

Well, it looks like we have another Dingwall lust victim.

I headed to Nashville on Saturday to hang out with Mark Robertson (Greenboy Audio/BNA Audio) in his studio. We had a gear nerd day and I got to drag a bunch of my favorite gear down and run through a multitude of fEARless cabs and stack combos. Each and every stack or cab we played sounded just amazing.

I was explaining to him that he MUST hear the low B on the Super J through his cabs. It would double his sales.

To say that he was impressed is the understatement of the day. Something tells me that Barry will be hearing from Mark soon.

Sounds like you had your share of fun!

I'm looking forward to experiencing the power of Dingwall through manipulated vortex waveguide (BigE) technology next month. I like the Walkabout/ML-112 combination just fine but am interested in improved dispersion/coverage.
