Zs never had the square shells per se. (At least as far as I know) They had Super Fatties which were thinner. Like this:

It is. Roof last fall, furnace December, rusty tub coming out in a few weeks, killed camshaft in the old abused truck, new truck 2 weeks ago. When will it stop!!!!
it was only the Z model of the AB’s that had the EMG shells. The AB1 and 2 had rounded shells going back like @Selta mentioned. The shells in the ABZ converted in 2018(?) when they did away with the slim rounds for SF1 as well standardizing all pick ups to the same shell for east swap ability.

Precisely. My bad though - I never think of ABZ, just AB1 and AB2. "ABZ" just makes me think it's an AB with a Z neck or something hah.
I'm in Baltimore County. I have a buddy that has his own HVAC company. That's saving me big money.
Sell your NG3 instead, the material difference from where you bought at between the two isn’t much.

That would be an expensive option, I'd imagine.
I have a new to me ab1 5 string. I have just played it “as is” and not touched the setup. It is too low on the B side.
what specs are you guys using for your 5ers? Relief and string height?
i will look at my ng2 because out of the box it really was a perfect setup for me. I tend to be heavy handed, and like some fret buzz when i dig in. I am also probably over focused on near straight necks and low action.
