I just ordered some Daddario NYXL strings for my Super P5. Been playing it with flats for about a year, but it’s time to hear it with nickel rounds again. Anyone else tried the NYXLs yet?

Not on a dingwall but on many of my basses. Ran them for about 8 years then switched to eb cobalts. Personal preference change but recently put some nyxl on my sandberg and reexperienced how great they sound
Hey guys, a little off topic but my other musical hobby (modular synths) is requiring a little blood ($). I am going to list in the classified section later but hit me up if you are interested in a small 5w, ptp wired tube head that is based on the classic Orange/Matamp circuit (has FAC, etc). It’s way louder than you think, it drives my big Mesa cab! Has lots of cool features that allow you to use it as a preamp, or silent recording amp.
Dingwalls sound amazing with it as long as you like an awesome, dirty tube tone.

I like those strings, I haven't considered them for my NG3 because my Super Long XLs tapered before the nut by about a quarter inch. My thinking is that the NYXLs are the same, I would love it if I were mistaken. Please lets us know.
Yeah i found them earlier today, and i thought they were really good. Imho some of the best out there.
As it was it was fine for fingerstyle, but i had a touch too much buzz with the pick. i ended up adding a touch more relief and i am very happy with the results.
so happy that I 100% have my new #1 bass. Today i just explored the entire fretboard and just really enjoyed the tone… clean, driven, an overdriven.

those ng’s really are a fantastic gateway drug to the custom offerings. I literally have nothing bad to say about my “green bass”. It just plays and feels so good.

My first Dingwall was a Z3 from 2019, well, spectacular bass, but I prefer the body shape and the neck shape of the NG3!
The only thing I preferred in the Z was the sound, and the hardware, but that's about it

to throw a PG on an AB like the bass you mentioned. There is some modification to be done to the neck heel. It needs to be shaved down to accommodate the guard.

Your old Z3 sounds quite congested in comparison, how do you explain it ?
On the D-Rocs, I know the wings are arched and thin out as you move away from the center body block, but is the back also “scooped” like a Spector or Warwick or is it flat?
Not flat, but not curved like a Spector, lots of tummy cut.
Kind of sexy from this angle.
The Z3 has an awkward thin neck to me, the B and the G were way too close to the edge of the fingerboard, even if the build quality and materials are above the Combustion, it didn't really feel comfortable in my hands (even though I prefer small necks). The neck of the NG3 is just marvellous! A little bit shaped like my Le Fays, not thin, not large, but the shape is just very comfortable on my hand.

Yes, I am aware of the modifications to the neck heel required to install a pickguard on the Canadian Afterburner, I did ask Dingwall about the string height to the body, and it appears to be higher than the Combustion, which is the limit for me. I think a pickguard should fix that height.. I am still thinking about it, if they did it for Ayumu maybe they can do it for someone else?
The Z3 was quite hard for me to slap, even though I adjusted the action really low, I still had a very high 13-14mm from the G string to the body, it is just not comfortable for plucking with my thin fingers!
On the Z3, I am using position 2 (bridge and middle), on the NG3 using 3 (bridge and neck), both passive.
But surely, the Z3 sounds noticeably clearer, more articulate than their Chinese counterpart. The Alnico pickups also adds a little more "natural" bottom end to it making it merge better in the mix than they neodymium pickups, and less "metallic" sounding. I do regret selling my Z3 even though I am more comfortable on my NG3, and also find it prettier!
If I still had the Z3 now, I probably wouldn't sell it. Was a summer mistake..
Man... that's really good info. I'm kit a fan at all of strings super close to the fretboard edge. But I do prefer thensuper thin flat necks...
I don’t find my Z neck awkward thin, at all. I think it feels nice and svelte.
I have never had an issue with my B string but I have had with the G a few times. I made some sort of finger motion making the g side of neck feel a little narrow to the edge. I just became a bit more mindful and it stopped and now I don’t really think about it.
IDK, my experience with slapping/popping on the Z is that is the easiest 5 for that, for me, ever.
