I just got a D Roc and am loving it. The only thing I don't care for is the hardware. I have a few questions I hope you guys can help with. What size are the tuners? Are there any other bridge options? Will the Canadian knobs work on the split shafts?

Tuners are 3/8 (something on the website that is actually correct). Canadian Knobs work, if you order form Dingwall they come with the brass ferrules, other retailers you might have to specify what they are going on.

Depending on your issue with the bridge there are a bunch of different solo rail options, Hipshot make a replacement saddle with rounded corners that are $12 each but they only come in black or chrome. if you want a 1 piece bridge you're SOL for now.

Thanks I figured the 3/8 was right. I see Hipshot makes a short Y key is that what are on Dingwalls? Would I need the 6mm or 1/4 knobs?

That sennheiser is the one I’ve got my eyes on. The one I have for IEMs works great, too.

I do highly recommend this instrument unit for sure thou regardless.

Does anyone have a DG Alpha Omega Photon that they're pairing with a D-Roc? Curious what your settings look like.

Here's what I've been gravitating to (clean-dirt-all out near fuzz). The B7K has since left my board since it was made redundant.

I feel like I'm getting too much "hiss" without a LPF on the dirt settings. The presence they have is nice, though.

It's not really an issue through my cabs (2 mesa subway 15s) with the horns turned off, but my the d-roc and ng-3 pickups are so much more articulate that it's only a thing with them direct, not really my other basses.

I can eq it on my mixer direct, but my band's jam room mixer isn't as flexible, and I'm worried about some audio guys at shows getting it right now that I'm trying to move to the AOP. The "hiss"/ "fizz" is in just the range that conflicts with dirty guitars a bit too much, to my ear.

I've tried reducing the high shelf and highest khz eq on the pedal, but then it doesn't cut through the mix as much (with or without the LPF I usually add at 5-6khz on my mixer). It's also still somehow a bit noticable if I go direct out of the AOP with a cab sim on.

Maybe I just need to get an eq pedal and run it after the AOP to dial it out like I do via my mixer? That'd remove the option of going direct out from the AOP and I'd always need to bring my mesa d800+ (cabs or no), but it'd probably be worth it to let this Dingwall + AOP combo ring out in full glory

This would've been easier to manage if DG had included an FX loop on the AOP like you see on stuff like the Jad Freer CAPO, or let you adjust the EQ slider bands more...

Yeah, I haven't found an amp + cab sound I like playing my Dingwalls specifically through more... It's paradise, even with my d-roc tuned to drop G#

You're running absolutely gobs of gain so of course you're gonna have a super noisy and hissy sound direct. Best advice is run a LPF or cab sim (same deal), your DG pedal I assume has that but as you're not running it last you might not be able to use it. As you have a bit of space on that board I'd throw a Broughton LP filter (I'd use the HP + LP personally) at the end of the chain set to cut the frequencies you don't like. Cut at 5-6k, job done.

Another solution would be to put a DG Element at the end of chain and use the cab sim there to send the sound to mixer/FOH/Interface. It seems you have enough space on your board for it

Just ordered a source audio EQ2 (was between that and an empress paraeq mkii) to use as a LPF to do what you're saying / replicate what I have going on in my mixer - thanks for confirming what I thought was going on, folks!

btw yes, I have probably more gain dialed in than you'd expect, because in my band we just have myself, the guitarist, vocalist, and drummer. The way I have my tones dialed in, I can either blend pretty well with the guitar for those "thiccc guitar riff" sections, while also being able to hold my place in the mix when I'm playing a completely different but complimentary part. It's working well so far, aside from personally not digging those high fizzy sounds that'll now be getting cut off even at jams and shows (where there's maybe not the best sound guy) with the addition of a LPF and some creative EQing that I can also pre bake into my board to pop in the mix more.

I meant to send my clean tone, then main dirt, then crazy all in fuzzy tone, but the pics got out of order a bit.

None of this would be possible without the Dingwalls, though. So that's why I wanted to post here, assuming others chasing similar things would be having similar challenges.

That sennheiser is the one I’ve got my eyes on. The one I have for IEMs works great, too.

Only have to figure out how to rack my Tone Hammer haha.

I’m also thinking about getting an Enki to put my Super P and the SJ i have on the way

added the infinity recently and it decimated my pedal board. The HX stomp is there purely for the addition of occasional reverb/chorus.

Another vote BTW for fret illusion. They are still fresh but Mark was awesome to deal with and from 5’ away they do a really great job of looking rad!

Damn! That setup is so KILLA'! I dig it so much! I just got a new Sennheiser wireless for my basses. I was having a crap ton of issues with dropouts and interference, because we have so much digital gear, all of my digital wireless units were just getting killed by all the other stuff. So I went with the analog EW-500G4. So far, it's been great. I run it on my pedalboard. I wanted to mount it under the top shelf, but I, apparently, ignored some of the dimensions and it doesn't fit, so on the top shelf it goes. I was hoping to power it with the DC7, which should've worked, but it won't come on. Which Sennheiser IEMs are you using? I went with Shure for my IEMs and EV for my mic(the less cables I have around me, the happier I am), just to keep the possibility of crosstalk down to the bare minimum.

Pics for reference(if the sight of zero cable management bothers you, skip the second pedalboard pic. I tried, a cable went bad, had to take it all apart to find it, said screw it, I'm not redoing it... )

Back to Dingwall content-I'm at the very beginning stages of planning another Dingwall build. Trying to decide if I want a Sklar or a Z3. They both have their pros and cons. Still contemplating...

I was going to order an ABI, but when it came time to finalize the specs, I went for a Z3.

It should be done in a month or two.

This will be my last purchased bass for a long while (I deleted my credit card info from Reverb, then removed the card from my wallet and shredded it-- GAS be d@mned!), so I wanted this one to be something I wanted badly-- and I have wanted a Dingwall for nearly a decade!

So, here she is-- a Combustion NG-3 six-string in Matte Ducati White (which I swear has some kind of mica or pearl mixed into it), pictured with my Darkglass ADAM, DNA 1350 (main head), Genzler Magellan 350 (backup head), and Phil Jones CAB67 with cover:

Damn! That setup is so KILLA'! I dig it so much! I just got a new Sennheiser wireless for my basses. I was having a crap ton of issues with dropouts and interference, because we have so much digital gear, all of my digital wireless units were just getting killed by all the other stuff. So I went with the analog EW-500G4. So far, it's been great. I run it on my pedalboard. I wanted to mount it under the top shelf, but I, apparently, ignored some of the dimensions and it doesn't fit, so on the top shelf it goes. Ah! I actually just upgraded to that one today! I can hear quite a difference between the 2 units. I did get the xsw iem originally but I’ve had sound issues with it since day one. There is not just an audible difference is sound quality, there is also a big difference in the background white noise. I’m much happier with my playback now. Not to mention other things like the small more robust belt pack etc.

The EW digital though on the instrument unit though…. Killer playback.


When my rig stays set up I’d leave the battery charger right there but not for transport.
Due to the different brackets I now also have to drill a hole in the WD800 rack ear for my cable to route inside tomorrow.
Seems a constant project
