I'll start by saying my Sklar sig is the last bass I will ever buy. It has filled every need I can think of and then some. Truly of all the basses I've owned over this long life, (and there has been a ton) this is by far my favorite. It checks every box on my perfect bass wish list. With that said, I recently hooked up with an accomplished songwriter who has some really great material. The band is in the infant stages, but progressing nicely. Yesterday at rehearsal I got the strangest request. He asked what it would take for me to play a Fender bass. I stood there for a moment not really knowing what the answer should or would be, and said, "This is my bass." The conversation pretty much ended there. It's literally the first time I've ever been asked by a band leader to play a different instrument. It definitely put a damper on my day....???

that’d get under my skin too. I’d have to think on a polite response… which I most likely would actually do. Then I’d have to decide if I’d be satisfied playing said fender.

I have a mexi P that’s a beater lake bass and it’s fun…. For my interests.
the only reason I have it is because it was free.

I suppose I’d give it an optimistic go if they had one on hand for me to use. Set it up to my tastes and see if I could enjoy the playability and tone.

I’ve never met a fender B string that id be friends with thou so there is that…. Good luck. Maybe roll your tone pot down a bit and see if that help you get that fender sound. Lol.

I mean, I think the only reason a band leader would ask me to not use my ABZ would be for aesthetic purposes - which is where my Fodera PJ steps in. Switch to passive, turn blend fully to the P pickup and you got a sound which is impossible to tell apart from an actual Fender P (and a good one at that!)

Honestly I could play 100% of my shows with those two basses plus my upcoming fretless ABII 6 which is on order.

That's the exact colour I wanted a Stingray 5 in back in the early 90's. I still occasionally keep an eye open for them.

I was actually looking for another DW Super but couldn’t resist.

Search “Dingwall” in the bass guitar for sale TB classifieds. Whatever quirk is going on today with TB, you’ll see ads from 2005-2006. Check out prices on Dingwalls from almost 20 years ago. See some of the very first Super J’s.

Heck - even 10-12 years ago, prices were much more reasonable.

I've had a few Dingwalls over the past two years.

I was going to order an ABI, but when it came time to finalize the specs, I went for a Z3.

It should be done in a month or two.

Can't recall how many times I've said this

I'm being kinda-sorta honest with myself-- as of this acquisition, I have every bass I genuinely *need*, although there are a few more I may want, I don't feel like not having them is going to work against me in any way.

Also, given that nearly half the *NEW* gear purchases I've made in the past 2 years (including this NG-3, unfortunately), have had some kind of workmanship issue, I've concluded this is just not a good time to buy gear. If some things improve and most makers get their QC crap together again, I may reconsider.

I agree. Listing a 13 year-old 2 pickup ABII for $5,600 borders on ridiculous.
