Hi! This might be the place to ask: how's the standard D-Roc holding itself?

I seriously contemplating getting one. I'm playing an Epiphone T-bird pro tuned to BEAD in a death/doom metalband, but I found it hard to get along with the floppy B. It's already a 0.135 hexcore, which was an improvement on the .130 roundcore it had before, but I'd still like a tighter string, some more tension. So I tought the D-Roc might be nice, and I might as well give the whole 5 string a try. So either a D-Roc 5 or a 4 tuned to BEAD. What can I expect from a D-Roc compared to a T-Bird? How's the neck on the D-roc's? Do the pick-ups pack a punch?

I wish I could try one out, but there's nothing within two hours that carries Dingwall unfortunately.

The D-rocs tone is going to be much cleaner and clearer. It'll probably be lighter weight, too. The B will be a noticeable improvement.

Dingwalls hold their resale value, so even though you're in a Dingwall'less area, you probably wouldn't have any trouble reselling it if you didn't care for it.

I never liked any of the Tbirds I tried, Gibson or Epiphone. The necks were very C shaped and felt thick front to back. The tone was nasal. And neck dive. Plus they just felt huge.

The Dingwall design fixes all these issues. All the flab is trimmed away. Balance is perfect. Light weight. A huge variety of tones with the three pickup and rotary switch.

You do need to take some time with your strap setup. You’ll need the strap locks because the strap hardware is recessed into the body and heel of the neck. I think they come with the bass. It’s very comfortable sitting down. On the strap, the body wants to roll out a bit. It’s not bad but not easy if you are a neck gazer.

Going from a Gibson or Epi to the Dingwall is going to be night and day, in a good way.

I picked up a 5 string NG3 from Axe Palace this weekend - amazing service and super nice guys! Very enthusiastic and helpful. Highly recommend paying them a visit.

@GrayGoesBlack they certainly have a D-Roc there, at least they did on Saturday. It's a lovely model and feels great.

True, might just lose a few hundred which can be considered a fee for trying. I don't know how I feel about a cleaner and clearer tone, but that's what fuzzes are for.

Ha, that place is new in town, never been! I remember seeing the website some time ago and didn't trust/like it because of the whole eighties arcade vibe, colorwise, and all those complicated guitars (I'm a simple guy, 501's and flanel). Will have a check, thanks! I was looking at places like Klundert Music and another place in Belgium somewhere, but this will be good for the feel of it. I will need a D-roc to be sunburst at least, I want to see some wood (like trees wood, not what the dirty mind thinks).

Ok so I wanted a Dbird for a couple of years, due to the videos I had seen. I got a Droc and fell for it. Then I made some trades and got a Dbird. Now I wasnt a fan of the color, but I grew to dig it. But now after making a few mods to my Droc it’s been my baby and the Dbird has sat lol. I’m figuring to sell it. How much average price wise should I put her up for ? What do guys think ?

There is a stunning white custom Dbird asking $3k, maybe $3.5 k in the ads right now. I know this because, I keep looking at it. But my tax season yields no refund, so, no Dbird for me.

Will Dbirds be the rare, collectible, “lawsuit” Dingwall? Maybe. Either way, it’s a great bass and somebody will love it.

The D-bird Kev is referring to is my old one. I can tell you I paid $1550 for it in 2021. I didn’t like the smoked chrome so I upgraded the tuners to black USA hipshots (the originals are imports) and added a Detuner which was ~$150 total (~$200 if done today). I replaced the knobs with black (about $10) and bought the upgraded black individual USA Hipshot saddles for the bridge from fretnation for $40. I also removed the decal pickguard and added block fret marker decals.

I realize most of those upgrades don’t really enhance the value of the bass, but I wouldn’t list it for anything less than $1750 or so. They are getting hard to find and the prices are just gonna go up.
