It's home! It plays well. Needs some fresh strings and a little set up tweak for me, but other than that, I'm happy!
Nice. Still hoping a D-bird comes up for sale again when I've got the money.
I'm not sure who made the bridge on this one. It doesn't say and it seems to have the texture of pot metal. Not milled.
Has anyone compared the super P tone to a traditional P bass? I can't seem to find a good video.
I don’t have a recording, but I have A/B tested my Dingwall Super P/J with a Fender American P. The Super is spot on. It does what P’s do in spades.
That’s with the P tone solo’d against the single P pup in the Fender. Tone open or closed, with tiny differences for two different sets of rounds that probably had different hours of play time. Both sets well broken in.
I had my friend, who is a competent, working bassist play his Fender and my Super, fingers, slap, pick. Then I did the same. We both thought they sounded pretty much the same.
Totally different in every other area. Neck shape and feel, evenness across the strings, all the design tweaks….

Almost certainly the Payson bridge with the name removed. Not aware of any others being available in that style.
I’ve purchased seven pre owned Dingwall’s since I took a leap, sight unseen, on a used Super J P/J back around 2008. I packed up, and put up a for sale ad on my Fender J that same day. Used the packing material the Super arrived in. No hesitation, the difference in quality and sound was night and day.
Every single one was excellent. I’m not picky about colors or finish. Except black, never wanted or thought I’d own a black bass, but here we are:
Four, five, and six strings, Supers and AB-1, and a Dbird.
I settled on four strings, 19mm string spacing, and light weight. The Super is 7.5 lb.
Used Dingwalls are pretty much no risk. They come and go for about what I paid, give or take shipping. Grab a good deal and you might even come out ahead.
You will be in good company prowling the used market. Don’t dilly dally on a deal, they don’t hang around long. I’ve seen fair priced Dingwall sell in a few hours. Darn it! Missed another!

So was the middle area of the Standard D-Birds radiused or not? I’m still not sure about this.

I let 2 Canadians pass me. On my market, I didn't see what I wanted except for these two ocassions, so when the third chance popped up - I got on it.
In hindsight, I guess I could have ordered a custom and wait it out but I didn't have close to 80k of my local currency to just drop into something.
I got my ABII for 40k. The previous one, an ABZ that was up for sale locally went for 30k.
1k usd is roughly 10k sek.
