The new Chinese D-Roc 5s have arrived and they don't have Hipshot LIC tuners...

I wonder what else has changed.
The tuners are probably built in the same Chinese factory as the licensed ones. Maybe the same quality. They just didn’t have to pay the license fee. Chinese quality is all over the place. I’m sure Dingwall used good quality ones. The new Chinese D-Roc 5s have arrived and they don't have Hipshot LIC tuners...

That said, the Hipshot USA tuners are so much better than the licensed ones. I put a Hipshot USA drop tuner on my Combustion and didn’t realized the quality difference between them and the licensed ones until I had some of both on my bass. I ended up replacing all of them with Hipshot USA. That is a mod that I will never regret.
Do the 5-string versions still have the bridges as opposed to single string saddles like on the 4-string versions?
Double Ew. 1.7k bass with those tuners?
Better to wait for a custom shop on the used market then. Yeah youll wait until something you like pops up but youll get something of good quality instead of paying 2k for a chinese bass with seemingly worse hardware now, if we are talking about the droc.Curious that they moved the production back to China. I mean, it makes sense to have all your production in a single place but I really liked the small touches they gave the D-Roc 5 in Korea versus the MIC 4-strings
I totally agree with you here. It's a much better value proposition as well, used ABZs can be had for 2.5k if you're patient.Better to wait for a custom shop on the used market then. I almost got a custom shop 4 string droc instead of my used ABII. Still want itI totally agree with you here. It's a much better value proposition as well, used ABZs can be had for 2.5k if you're patient.
But the previous run of D-Rocs with Hipshot licensed tuners seemed to be a knock out of the park, so to speak. I've heard nothing but praise about their playability, weight and sound. Plus that Aquamarine colour is gorgeous![]()
Even the LTD B10XX get really nice gotoh tuners. Its absolutely vain but putting those cheap ugly tuners on a dingwall is taking away that little extra that kept them above an Ibanez. And I love Ibanez but I think incredible value, bang for buck, affordable. With dingwall, let's be honest you feel a bit more proud to say you got one.Better to wait for a custom shop on the used market then.
