So that‘s around 10.2 cm (4.016 inches) for the bird/roc pickups and around 11.1 cm (4.37 inches) for the SPJ. No match, sorry.
I have a feeling a 3X super an has the same size pickups as the D-roc, combustion, AB etc. The super p has the longer pickups as it’s at a different angle.
Would be interesting to see if anyone with a 3X SJ 4 could measure to if I’m just way off.
My 3x SJ pickup shells measure 4.5 inches (11.43cm) long and 1.25 inches (3.17cm) wide.

Can‘t say I share that feeling. To me, 3X Supers seem to have the exact same angle as regular Supers. Please do compare for yourself:

It's been almost 2 years away, and honestly, that's been positive for me overall. But I don't want to super dig into that here.
The Prima Artist and Bloodmoon Z are still my main basses. During my TB break I also took a bit of a bass break, did a lot of drumming, and some soul searching to figure out what I want to do with my musical life.
Then late December 2023, a message found its way to me to join a new, really inspiring, challenging, and fun prog-death project. I of course said I'd give it a whirl, and, have been practicing quite a bit to get skills in shape and learn the material. Even at my peak of playing before taking a break this stuff would've been a bit beyond me, so I've had my work cut out for me. The audition gig (yeah, live gig audition, no sweat right) is early March... more on that later, maybe
Anyhoo. I'm selling some things (don't ask, not going to sell through here) and once those move along, will likely be getting into queue for another Z. This time around, a Z3 5 string.
But I could use a bit of rubber ducky time here to talk through things. I have something unusual that I'm going to ask Sheldon and crew if they're up for, but outside of that, I don't have much in the way of specs nailed down. With the wait time being what it is, I'm not too worried about it haha.
Where my largest uncertainly lies this time is... electronics. As some of you may recall, I experimented with one of my ABs in putting dual filter preamps in it. My others Dingwalls all have Glock pres. I've had Combustions with EMGs, and of course NG3s with Darkglass. But I'm really not sure what way to go with this new build. I think Darkglass is out, it's just never been appealing to me... if I want the overused Darkglass type tone, I'd just drop a pedal in line instead, and I don't want it baked into the core of the bass.
The new Neve preamp seems REALLY appealing. But there's not much in way of comparing that to the Glock. I'm hoping some one here can give thoughts or even better, recordings to shed some light on it.
Next up are of course pickups. I've gone round and round, and generally like FDVs. But, SF2s seem like they may be a little more in line with where I want to go, and to also more drastically differentiate this bass from the PA and other Z? I really need to find a good comparison here... I think John Fox did some videos on them that I need to do some listening on, but hearing input here would be nice as well.
Overall I guess I'd ask if you weren't going Darkglass, what pickups and pre would you toss in a Z with it's main intent being technical/progressive metal playing? The FDV+Glock has been working well, so I could be happy just sticking with that, but now is a good time for me to question that thinking

Does anybody have a Dingwall with an Audere Pre-amp in it? Just curious? I am about to put one in a P-Bass build.

I feel like having a mid control onboard would be pretty vital for technical playing. While the Neve is intriguing, and I'm sure it sounds great because, well, Sheldon commissioned it, I don't think 2 bands and a passive tone would be enough control, especially if you need to change playing styles (slap, tap, finger, etc) quickly.
But maybe FDVs with series/parallel into the Neve would work really well.
Yeah, I'm 99% sure S/P switches will be on the build. I have them on my Prima, the other Z, and my ABs, and they get quite a bit of use. Honestly, I've found myself switching them more than knob turning when I want/need a quick change. I've even been debating going fully passive, but I'd almost certainly regret that, so it's "Glock or Neve", and "FDV or SF2" I think

I don't think you could go wrong with any of those combinations.
Thinking about it a bit more as I sit here listening to John Fox play samples... the pickup choice is less important, as swapping in different ones down the line is trivial. Heck I may just order FD3, FDV, and SF2 with it and muck around with combinations.
So then I'm left with preamp choice. That's a little more difficult since the Neve is so much newer.

Aside from my interest in the Neve, which probably is amazing but not what I’d be looking for, the LHZ LHZpreamps.com – HazLabs clone preamps for Spector basses is high on my
List. I’d probably pair it with FD3s given the opportunity
Anyone here live around Ann Arbor, MI? I'd love to try a 6 string, but I've never tried any Dingwall and I'd like to before purchasing one. If you're willing to let me try yours, please let me know!
