When you run two pickups in series with each other do you usually have one of the pickups internally in parallel so the sound isn't too thick?

In B/N yes. B/M could depend on the room sound but generally I find it fine and useable in both.

my fretless has the Droc switch and I find the toggles very useful in tone shaping in the all 3 on setting usually the N pup stays in parallel.

Maybe an F Bass

Honestly, my experience and preferences says they are the most similar I have tried. I had a D Bird 4 string and an ABZ5. I currently have Spectors (4 and 5), Nash P, and Rics in addition to the F Basses. I wouldn't say they are identical, but based on how I feel/perceive them, they are more alike than not.

I don't like thin necks generally, but the Droc hits a nice sweet spot. I would describe as thin but with just enough chunk

I wouldn't call it small, more middle of the road. D-Roc nut is 42mm, P bass is about 42-43mm and my D-Roc 4 had a similar depth back to front as my 2019 Mexi P bass neck. Stingray is similar too but I didn't have a Ray and D-Roc 4 at the same time.

Yeah, I was practicing today and the neck on my ABII felt very small. I consciously noticed how smooth and cozy it was, so it made me think... Thanks.

Every time that people start chatting about them, I am shocked that I haven’t put in a 6 way selector or toggle switches in my Z. You may have noticed in some pictures I have posted that I have a good amount of modular synthesizer gear (which are more than a synthesizer, really). So, I love getting into the weeds of sound design and having a lot of options.
IDK if it’s Fear of Messing Up (will I pick the wrong pickup combo) OR if I think the switches will always have me tweaking (does this pickup combo sound better in parallel or series with this fuzz? What about that fuzz? I have a lot of fuzz boxes).

I really dig 3 of the 4 options that I have with bridge only being the weakest link. So, it totally does make sense to me to replace that bridge only option at some point. If I am replacing, I might as well get the 6 way.
What is the stock setting for the toggle switches?

What do you like about them over Dingwall strings?

I use their flatwounds on a couple of my basses. Super smooth, rounded tone. Dingwall doesn't sell flatwounds.

Curious how they differ from TI flats in your experience?

TIs are thicker. You'd think you'd want them thicker, but I actually prefer the lighter Paysons. Paysons are smoother than TIs.

TI flats just have their own thing going on. After the painfully bright break in period, they seem to loosen up and mellow. I like the dynamic range. TI’s like a light touch, but you can dig in. Really dig in, and they get kind of a sneezy thing going. Big, clear dynamic range. I really like them on the longscale AB, but you’ll need a special mixed set for that length.

They slap with their own flavor. I really like how soft and bendy they feel. Funny thing is since I’ve found my light set up, the TI’s now feel fairly stiff, and that’s the Super P. Especially after I had Boomer .030 nickel rounds on it.

The Payson flats do a very good job. On the Dbird, they feel just the tiniest bit stiffer than the TI’s on the Dbird. Probably has to do with the longer scale.

I don’t think there is another string out there like the TI flats, probably because of the expensive construction. They just have their own thing going on. I never really liked the TI flat B string. It’s a whopping .136 with no taper at the ball end. I’d run five strings E-C. TI flats last forever, so I don’t even blink at the price.

Id like to try the La Bella low tension flats, but they don’t seem to make a long enough set. I really liked these on a buddy’s short scale.

Im not complaining about the Payson flats. They sound and feel great, and go right on a Dingwall longscale. No problem recommending them, and I switch them out between the AB and Dbird.

Most other flats I’ve run into are just way too stiff and bright, I’m thinking chromes and other common flats.

I didn't need a mixed set for my 5-string fretless. Just bought the Jazz Flats in 5. I can look up the model number. But I agree the B is a bit fat, which is why I like the Paysons.

I believe for the standard 3x they default to SPS, and maybe PPS for the D-Roc, but I’m less certain of the latter.

I think that depends on the bass. For example IMO a p tone should always be in series. I wouldn’t be surprise if customs left the shop in “the best” sound for that bass set up.
