Only recently I acknowledged how much of an influence they were on my when I was younger and realized I never learned any of their music. Heck, I just watch Justin chancellors rig run down and followed that up with hitting up the classifieds for a Wal. :banghead:

The whole cover thing, I have no time for it. I've been really busy with work, now a band and soon I'll be studying, too. And that's all the side stuff. Being married and all... good thing is that I'm not a mom - if there were kids in the picture, Jesus...

Gear wise, this Microtubes 900 v2 is so cool. It makes me very happy. I've been sitting down all day today and resting from work - perfect time to sit down for hours and doodle on my new amp :)

I cannot wait to run it at band practice. I think it will be amazing.

Tool? Truth be told, I never heard any of their music beyond the one bass line that everybody and their mother seems to be learning, hysteria? I think? Did I get it right?

Wals look so cool, but I would go for an Alembic. I really like the deluxe signature one. Others are whatever, DingWALls are where it's at anyway :)

I was conversing with Helge on the topic of scratchy pots (had one in my '09 SJ/P-4). Instead of DeOxit, he recommended a super-light oil. He may have mentioned a brand name, but I don't recall that detail.

I was a young teenager listening to Opiate and undertow. Then Aenima came along in high school… some heavily “influenced” were spend “experiencing” that music.
I think you’d dig the old music videos. If you feel like a rabbit hole check out their vids from the 90s on YouTube.


Wal… I actually don’t love the body shape and style. … the sound is unique…. The price is absurd.

No experience with SS strings since I greatly dislike how they feel and sound generally, but for a slightly brighter set of nickels, I really like the Dunlop Super Brights on my SPJ5. They get some of the added treble content you hear with SS strings, without the coarse feel or slightly scooped mids.

I keep meaning to try the DW Stainless for my SP5 (@Lowendtech 's ex-bass) . Slight scoop and a little more presence might be just the ticket.
Next time I reup on strings maybe I'll try a set. I can't remember if I still have one set of the DW Nickels left or not.

love them on the long scales.
Didn’t bond at all with them on the supers.

it’s been a long time since I’ve played with them but IIRC they didn’t have any desirable presence in the mix(rock/metal) that I found desirable. I think it was the Low end content that was lacking substance with my rig set up at that time.

I like the Payson Mediums or dingwall nickels on the supers.

I’m a big fan of the DR pure blues, and they come in a light set, 90-40.

I can’t help with stainless. I find stainless to be grippy and abrasive, and the much ballyhooed brightness doesn’t do it for me. If a bass arrives with stainless strings, I’ll give it a try out, but a string change is less than an hour away.

And to offer up even more misguided and unsolicited advice: I feel like every Super needs a set of TI jazz flats, if only for more formal occasions.

If my Super was a 4, I'd agree on the TIJFs, but I just can't get down with the big fat B string. It's heresy to even imply I own other basses, but I just picked up a Squier P and have some TIJFs coming tomorrow for it.

With an SP (also with my SPJ as I installed one) the Tone Fusion control has the mid-scoop side so I think scoopy strings might be redundant. So the more I think about it the more likely it is that I don’t bother with them.

Those look interesting, I’ve never seen them before.

I’d try them, if only because I’ve never not liked a TI product.

I liked the Infeld Superalloys, a very nice nickel round wound with the TI feel. They come in different lengths and can go on the longscale Dingwalls. Easier on the wallet.

I have a set of the TI jazz rounds I bought from the TB store on close out. I keep meaning to get around to putting on one of my basses. They won’t fit the AB or Dbird, so it’s either the Super P or Cirrus. I doubt I’ll be able to switch them back and forth because of the headstock configurations. I’ll probably dither for another year or two.

From what I recall, they aren't crazy bright like new strings, but they sound like new strings broken into the sweet spot, if that makes sense.

If they were available for a 6 string Dingwall, I would buy them immediately.
