my sweetwater rep dropped me a line today and told me the ETA on the john taylor bass had been moved back to june for them(I'd originally been told end of march/early april). Don't know if thats the same for everyone cause I had them put me down for one a few weeks after they were listed, but looks like i've got a bit more of a wait if i decide to pick one up in the end.

That makes sense to differentiate them somewhat from the Canadian models. I sold my SP5 not too long ago...

Just got this bad boy in and it’s really on another level. Got a question for you all. It doesn’t have the “heft” my fender p has and I’m unsure why. The action is really low, like laying on the fretboard low but it doesn’t sound bad at all. Also very little buzz.

I have yet to play with the band yet so maybe that’ll change my perception. Just curious if this is a standard thing with the super p? (This is not a big thing especially considering the investment, just curious like a cat).

Try it with the rest of the band. The sound sits great in the mix :bassist:

My hunch here is that it doesn't lack heft, you're just much more clearly hearing overtones and "clarity" that legacy/parallel P types lack. Use it in a band context, and, don't hesitate to give it some EQ.

Kinda like listening to a Fr/Fr cab as opposed to a sealed vintage cab. It takes a bit for your brain to get accustomed to what’s entering your ear holes.
My SP4 and SPJ4 sound much different than my ‘73 P. I can get my SP’s to sound like my ‘73 but I can’t get my ‘73 to sound like my SP’s

I was gonna say what Selta said; it might not necessarily be lacking heft, it's just way clearer than a woofy old P-bass.

But also be aware of the tone pot. One direction it acts like a regular tone pot, the other direction it acts as a mid cut. I replaced mine with a regular tone pot.

Interesting. I did the opposite. I replaced the regular pot in my SPJ with a SP tone fusion pot.
