Soundwise, it was “tamer” than my Super P. I guess mainly due to the new split P pickup.
Don’t get me wrong, with the tone control fully open the bass can definitely deliver a gnarly rock tone, but the sound is overall warmer and more similar like a traditional P-Bass.

My custom SP has some aggressive mids, which I like, but the added warmth and roundness of the import will surely appeal a wider range of players :)

Great to hear, I am a little torn as I would like a Super J with triple pickups and a Neve preamp, but as you know a two year wait. Looking forward to your review of your new SJ.

Even though I prefer passive basses, I think I would have added a Neve preamp to my build if I had had the chance. It sounds way too good haha. Maybe I’ll do it when I order a custom 5 string at some point down the road.

I’ll do the video review after using it for a few more shows and recordings :)
But I can say already that the playability is superb.

I thought it would be
I noticed the web site says a 42mm neck width, your is Jazz width though, hopefully a mistake as I want a Jazz neck...

It’s 42 measured diagonally, but 38 measured “the traditional way”

The dual density body is slightly heavier than a a pure swamp ash body. I can tell that there is a weight difference between my SJ and my Super P.

I don’t know how much it actually impacts the tone of the instrument, but it a cool feature to have :laugh:

If I am not mistaken, my SJ is the 1st super bass with this feature and I do not know if it is now considered a “standard option” or if I got it because I’m listed as an artist. Just something to keep in mind.

The carving/shape of the neck is very comfortable to be honest.
It’s a different kind of “thin” than on an Ibanez Soundgear. Those necks hurt my wrist hurt, for example.

Yeah, I can do a J, but not a fan at all of Ibbys. Still, might as well grab the 5 and error on the more comfortable side. Unless 5 string spacing is like the Ibanez at 16/17 mm. But I'm guessing off the other DW's I've played it'll be just fine.

No. 5 string spacing on the Canadian super is 19mm. I think it will be 18mm for the import ones. Don’t quote me on that though.

Interesting - if yours is the first Northern ash/Swamp ash, mine (now in the build queue) may be the first Northern ash/Alder...

How would you describe the difference between the middle solo and the neck solo?

I just got a custom 6-way installed but these are the best 4 IMO.
