Dingwall Owners Club

Hello all.

Been a hot minute since I've been on the tb forums.

Just got my ab1 a little over a week ago and can't put it down. Figured I'd show her off.

This is my 3rd dingwall, but my 1st canadian. Have a c3 6 string and an ng3 6 string both set up for drop e0.

I can't get over the finish on this one. It's more than I ever dreamed. I knew it was going to be something special when I ordered it....but I am still blown away.

When I saw this one on the Music Loft IG I had some envy....amazing bass. Congrats!

Ah, so YOU’RE the one with the green leaf finish AB1. It’s very, very good looking, congrats.

Enjoy playing your beautiful work of art, brother.

Parts will start arriving soon for all of the work I’m going to put into my purple NG3, although actual work on it is going to have to wait till I get back home from a mid-June trip. Still, that might give me the time (and spare cash) to get the rest of the planned parts on hand.

The planned work:
Payson bridge (arriving tomorrow)
Black Dunlop strap lock strap buttons (it’s got nickel Schaller strap lock buttons now)
Black Hipshot Ultralight tuners (which really drives the cost up!)
Dingwall Canadian type knobs (also not cheap!)
Replacement of the active/passive switch with a sturdier, black one
Installation of three more switches just like the active/passive switch, to be series/parallel switches
Installation of the six-way I’ve had collecting dust.

The only smoked chrome part remaining will be the jack for the cable…anyone know what brand it is, if I decide to swap that at some point?

Anyway, it’s going to take a while, but I’m looking forward to it. Not looking forward to the cash outlay I’ll need to make, if I love it enough to do my other two NG3 6-strings.
I did most of that to my NG6. It really elevated both the look and feel of the bass. Just need to find a black switch and input jack to finish it off, but since I got my Z I don’t play my NG much anymore so upgrading it fell to the bottom of my priority list.

My Z3 is waaaaay superior to any of the NG3s, but I really want to see what the 6-way and series/parallel switches can do together. Who knows, after doing a couple of NG3s with 6-way switches, I might be comfortable enough to do the Z.

Also, until I can manage to finance a Z3 set up in F#0, I have an NG3 that has a trick my Z3 doesn’t.

View attachment 5466412 Question: Original Z3 Bridge vs the newer V3 Minimalist Bridge? I noticed Jacob Umansky got a minimalist bridge installed on his custom Z3. Does anyone know any specific pros or cons between the two bridges?
Unless I am much mistaken (I sure hope not, because I’ve been chasing every mention of it that I could find), that is NOT his Z3. That’s the prototype for his signature D, about which he’s let only little teaser nuggets of info out. Aesthetically, it’s quite similar to his Z3, but we don’t exactly know what changes are under the hood on it. Bridge, clearly. It has a different knob arrangement than a standard Dingwall, too. In the comments on this IG post, he mentions the active/passive switch is a push/pull, and answered a question about the neck profile with a “shhhhh” emoji.

I looked back at the other pic from that D social media post, and we can glean another detail or two, most notably, the neck seems to be maple. Fretboard, not sure. Something quite dark brown, so not Pau Ferro. What was the board on the Konkiel bass?

Also, I wonder if the final version will have the ghost speedo bars.

Edit to add: I just noticed, after zooming in, it’s got luminlay side dots.

I am really wondering how close this signature edition will come to, say, a no-option ABZ.

I thought this bass was some sort of prototype for what was going to be an import model.

I forget where I heard that, but I thought he was going to have an import signature.

Yeah, that one pictured is the prototype, which he’s been showing off and putting through its paces for probably about a year now. We just have quite few hard details on it, so far.
