So then is the original Z3 bridge is supposed to be superior compared to the minimalist bridge? Everything I've read about the minimalist bridge, include Sheldon's interviews points that the minimalist bridge is better and they're eventually replacing all their bridges with it?

Correct, Payson. I decided that, while it’ll be a few weeks before I can get working on the really in-depth mods that I have in mind (mentioned a page or two back), I really wanted to see how it fits right away, so I can know whether I want to order the other two. Pity they don’t make a curved 4-string version for D-Rocs and D-Birds.
Haven't been able to put my combustion down all day. Expectations exceeded, do believe I have a new #1. Excited to check it in the mix at rehearsal tomorrow. WooHoo!
Here is Sheldon talking about the minimalist bridge. It sounds to me eventually all the lineups will come with this bridge, including the Z3s. I like this bridge better over the individual saddles.
Pretty sure he’s speaking only about the imports shifting from individual saddles to the minimalist bridge.
The Z bridge is very different and higher end design, doubt very much it will change to the same as their cheapest lines.
@Waltsdog not sure about that, all the Canadian models but the Z3, Sklar, and Prima currently have shifted to the minimalist bridge. See Custom Shop - Dingwall

Those aren’t the Minimalist bridges. Those are the standard bridges that have come with those models for years. You’ll notice the slot in the back that allows the string to be rear loaded, unlike the Minimalist. Very similar design though.

I think it makes sense. His sig is an overseas production “ready to play” model. Same with the flat headstock and black paint as opposed to the slanted headstock and matching top of the Z. This will make it more cost effective, production-izable(??), and accessible. If you wanted Jacob’s Z then you could just order the Z with same specs.
Rumor is they are making a curved one!
That would be awesome, I'm not really bothered by the gap and my DROC it set up just fine but I'm wondering if I'll get a little more punch and sustain if everything had contact
Bridge contact to body will absolutely affect tone. Maybe even moreso than wood species, IME/IMO. With incomplete contact you’re losing resonant frequencies, definition, fullness, and sustain. Punch? Hm, depending on how you interpret it. It might be more “punchy” or midrangey as it is with the lack of potential full spectrum frequencies. Kinda like using an old Fender style bridge compared to a high mass bridge, fwiw.

@Scott McArron yeah, I noticed the massive difference a bridge can make when I first tried a babicz full contact. I thought about shimming or taking it to a luthier to have the body routed down for the bridge to set flat. But I'm happy as it is and don't mind waiting to see if a curved version does come out.
Well, good news, I got an email from Payson late last night, and he said that they’re working on one.
I wonder if the Z3, Sklar, and Prima will keep their individual bridges for better string to string isolation on the dual density bodies?
