Dingwall Owners Club

For the record, only one Z from The Great Dingwall Weigh-In had a weight over 10 pounds, and the only ones that approached or exceeded 10 were 6 strings.
Makes sense.. My 6 string Z3 is almost 11lbs with battery. Like 10.84lbs. Northern Ash/Alder.

My buddy just bought the Z2 below from Fret Nation (originally was at Ish guitars) - just checked on bathroom scale - 9.4lbs. Dual density Swamp ash body. Feels lighter than that to be honest..

I’d would just talk to the shop. If I ever put in a custom order it would be all about letting the paint crew strut their stuff.

They can do just about anything.

Good luck!
Thanks, it's just the local shop is taking it's time. But I basically want the pink color used here Dingwall NG3 6 String Matte Pink Swirl B-STOCK so that shouldn't be a problem. Not sure how long the wait will be, but sure it's worth it.

Watched some YouTube from the Dingwall factory from a few months ago that they are planning to have the wait time down to a year, if everything works out.

I’d probably go with something like this.
Literally the only time I'm ever like "I wish I was in Canada". I thought about taking a road trip / Dingwall vacation for a Kijii deal before.

I wouldn’t really be satisfied either. But we’re mainly playing smaller gigs and we’re in Eb the whole show. So the backup bass is really only for if I break a string or something happens with the preamp or input jack, etc. If the gig goes well I shouldn’t be touching the backup.
We're a spoiled lot over here so yeah you're just gonna get buy another Dingwall and while I'm inclined to agree I'd bet most everyone at your bar gigs will be too drunk to care or realize if you finish out a set on a Sire or whatever. (I did go see my buddys band and was kinda annoyed he quietly got rid of his Combustion for a Sandberg so beware of other Dingwallers - it also was their worst show I've seen...coincidence??)

But certainly not everyone has the scratch for a 2nd, 3rd, or even 1st Dingwall. I still have a Sire P7 5 string in ADGCF from before my first Dingwall (NG2) I kept around as a backup. Admittedly not close to the same feel but it works. I can definitely get a usable Fieldy Korn "tone" out of it. I also have a Ray35 & Schecter Studio Stiletto as my "beaters" (spoiled like i said) but they're all in different spots as I travel a bunch and have basses stashed in different locations including a Florida beach bungalow with crappy climate control so I need to have some stuff that's reliable enough to sound decent but I wont miss too much and dont have worry about when the next hurricane rolls through in a few months and the place is underwater.

That said, I get kind of cranky if I'm away from a Dingwall too long so I am getting to the point where I may start consolidating soon especially the 4 strings. 2 more may be the sweet spot - plus maybe a fretless eventually. But dont feel bad about rocking another bass. Just know you may end up flippin it for another Dingwall sooner or later.

If you have the patience, I recommend looking out for a beat up DROC. 4 strings especially can usually be had relatively cheap - and probably come around a little more often than a beat up Combustion/NG in the US.

I’ve got 3 Canadian dingwalls right now, I’m just not a fan of hauling two out to a gig from a risk perspective.

Admittedly I bought an ABZ also as a beater…. Funny thing is it is quite minty. I modded it but all that said, I’ll take it anywhere with confidence.

I’d still take a Z3 most places too. I also keep air tags in my travel gear which is a tiny piece of mind.

That said, my dingwall alternates aren’t really less expensive then Dingwalls.

Back to the ABZ, I’m probably a minority but I love these square shell basses for swapping in EMGs.

Heh. My Prima Artist goes to every gig and recording session. Every. :) I wouldn't want to own it if I wasn't using it, and it also just happens to be my favorite Dingwall in terms of feel and sound.
I found myself flying back and forth(for a short time) which put me to the reasoning of why take $20k worth of basses on an airplane repeatedly for 1/2 hr gigs when I could out $5k instead. I’m also paranoid about other people’s handling of my equipment vs my own care.

For anything local or travel that involves me driving I feel differently.
