Can you use regular 34" scale strings on Super P?

I've got an SP-1 on order (might be here as early as this March!) and I'm wondering if the shorter scale would allow me to use cheaper and easier-to-find non multi-scale string sets? I guess that strings with silked ends won't be compatible, but how about a garden variety set like super Slinkys?

Are any of you Super P and/or J players using regular string sets, and if so, what kind?

Most any 34” string sets fit four string Supers. TI flats 344 are a perfect fit. Any DR, D’Addario, GHS.

Things get a bit trickier for five string Supers, the nut to tuner distance on the B string is small. The five string TI set works on a Super.

Check with Jason at FretNation or Payson strings for options.

FWIW, all the DR sets I’ve tried are long enough for the four string longscale Dingwalls. The E just makes it over the nut.

For TI’s to fit on longscales you need the extra longs, or better yet a mixed length set. Super long TI jazz rounds were fine.

TLDR: four string supers have tons of string choices.

They should fit. I’ve used DR Pure Blues, D’addario EXL/NYXL, and Dunlop Super Bright on my former SJ without issues

I was reading through the list of executive orders signed yesterday and saw that 25% tariff starting on February 1st for Mexico and Canada. My first thought was about Dingwall basses. Heck, that will make Mexican Fenders on par with the cost of American Fenders.
And certainly there will be retaliatory tariffs, so hipshot and anything else goes up in price for Dingwall, then goes up in price for the consumer, add the import tariffs. It I don’t think he signed anything into law, err, executive order yet. A lot can change between now and then. I think I avoided anything political in that statement.

I wonder how things will change. I just did a down payment to the local shop. I'm in Europe, so I hope it has no impact. I guess the tariff is also for business to business? If not it would also be to easy to bypass..
Canada to Europe would be unaffected with the exception of the cost of any items made in the US and imported will likely go up in price as retaliatory tariffs are put into place. I guess USians are about to learn about the costs of an effective VAT tax.

I'm curious how these potential tariffs will be viewed relative to deposit date. For instance, I put down a $1,000 deposit on a Super P a while back (2023 or 2024... who can remember?). The remainder is due when the bass arrives at the retailer for me to pick up. Would I be on the line for the originally agreed upon price from Dingwall to the retailer, or will be on the line for that amount plus the tariff fees?

If they're applied like normal, it wouldn't matter when the deposit was made. As far as I know, deposits are for the dealer to secure things and kind of separate out the tire kickers. So when Dingwall invoices the dealer $8k for that Z, that's that number that would be used for the tariff, even if you only owe $7500 at that point.

We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out at this point. It's not yet a done deal. For folks who are politically active and wish to express themselves, writing to reps would be... prudent. It's also possible that the tariffs get enacted, and quickly withdrawn as well.

Trying to thread the needle on this post, so that's as far as I'll take it :D
